When it comes to Amy Schumer, a rising comedian/actress, many people are not at ease with her personality. I believe that once you get passed the crude humor and inappropriate jokes that she is one of the most inspirational stars in today's world. I know that she mainly talks about things that provoke sensitive conversations, but she does it in a way that stands out. Schumer takes a topic that nobody really wants to open their mouthes about, like body image or sexuality, and takes it into a whole new perspective. She preaches about loving yourself and doing things to make you happy instead of the people around you. This is exactly what girls need to hear in a world that puts so much emphasis on being perfect.
Body image. According to magazines and the fashion industry, thin is beautiful. But according to Amy, you can have whatever body size, however many rolls, and any size boobs and you're still great. She posed naked for a calendar shoot recently and here's the result:
To be that comfortable in a body that is different then the standard definition of "beautiful" screams so many things. Compared to the Kardashians and other celebrities that young adults worship, Schumer keeps it real. She once said: "If I say I'm beautiful. I say I'm strong. You will not determine my story—I will." This quote in itself should be the motto for girls of any age, it speaks the truth and means more then it even says.
Another touchy topic that Schumer approaches is the sexuality of women. Most people think that women should be modest, well-behaved, and treat their bodies like treasure, but she completely shuts that statement down. Of course you should always respect yourself, but do it to your own limits not anybody else's. And she's not wrong, women should be able to freely express their sexuality without being shamed. If men are allowed to openly talk about "getting laid" and all their presented with is a high-five, women should be treated the same exact way. When talking about the empty-meaning behind the word "slut" to Cosmopolitan, she said:
"I have moments where I feel promiscuous and moments where I feel really boring like a one-woman-one-man woman. ... I feel like we're all like that. Sometimes I really just do feel like a f**king mess and slutty and out of control. And sometimes I feel like, 'Oh my god, I haven't had sex in months and I'm not looking to and I just want to watch Downtown Abbey in bed and make tea for myself.'"
In all honestly, I hope to grow up to be exactly like Amy Schumer. I have no shame in feeling this way and don't mind defending somebody who doesn't focus on their riches and beauty, but the amount of fun they are having with their life.
