I love my mom. Let me say it again: I love my mom. I personally feel like she is the best mother ever, but of course, I am biased because she’s my mom.
When I am upset, I call my mom. When I am happy, I call my mom. When I get a good grade, I call my mom. When a teacher is annoying me, I call my mom. When I have a stupid question, I call my mom. When I am bored, I call my mom.
There is not a day that goes by where I am not speaking to my mom in some sort of form. Whether it’s with a text, a phone call, an email or over FaceTime, I will find a way to talk to my mom at least once a day.
My mom is my rock. She means everything to me. I can honestly say I do not know what I would do without my mother. It is so hard to put into words why she is so amazing and why I am so blessed to have her as my mother. And of course I love my dad too, but my mom and I just have a special relationship with each other.
I value my mom’s opinion about everything so much. If she doesn’t like you, then I’m sorry. We can’t be friends, or date, or whatever. I need my mother’s approval for everything, because if she doesn’t like you, then there must be a reason why, and I trust her judgment more than anything.
In my 19 years of living I have learned, sometimes the hard way, that moms are always right. I think that once you become a mother, you must get some kind of superpower because my mom is always right about everything. She knew that one friend was going to be trouble and that I should stay away from them. I don’t know how she knew, but she did. She knows everything.
My mom and I do this thing where we go on “girly trips” with each other. Anywhere from three to seven days, we’ll go somewhere out of the state, just the two of us, and hang out all day, every day. The two of us are a pretty adventurous duo. We’ve even jokingly talked about participating on "The Amazing Race", so when I say we’re hanging out all day, I mean it.
My mom is a native New Yorker, and I like to pretend I am from New York, so that is our most popular getaway spot. Our hotel is usually in the city, but by no means do we just stay there. We go all around New York City. walking all day, seeing Broadway plays, taking the train to Queens, or taking the Long Island Railroad.
These trips mean everything to me and I cherish them so much. And I hope we continue the tradition of these trips until we’re old.
The older I get and the more I look back on my life, I hope that I have shown my mom how much I love and appreciate everything she has ever done for me. I don’t want my mom to think that I have ever taken her for granted, and I hope she knows that I love her very much. If you’re reading this mom, know that I love you, and you are truly my best friend.
