My Message To Animal Abusers

To those who think it’s okay to abuse animals:

I am by no means a chronically hateful person, but whenever I see an act of cruelty done on an innocent, I cannot help but unleash a wave of disgust in direction of the perpetrator. This wave of disgust is the strongest when I see people like you.

I myself have a dog, a Yorkie, named Luke. He is the greatest, most relaxed dog my family and I could ever have. Whenever I look into his cute little eyes, I see a creature of love and devotion to the family. I see a dog who loves treats and would do anything to get them. I see a dog who loves to go on walks every day. I see a dog who spends most of his hours sleeping beside someone in the family on the couch, wrapped in a nice blanket. Though Luke has his faults and moments of disobedience, he has never been mistreated. He got lucky because there are some pets in the world that are subjected to terrible abuse at the hands of their owners. Hands that are supposed to pet instead of hit.

I wonder how on earth you could look into the eyes of an animal and not feel any feelings of affection as they prance around you excitedly. I wonder how you could possibly lay one violent hand on a creature that was made to love and never intentionally cause trouble. I wonder how you could have the heart to listen to the yelp's and cries of the animal you hurt and feel no spark of guilty conscience afterwards. How? How could you do that?

Consider this message a voice for the animals that cannot plead or beg for their lives as you abuse them for nothing. You are the scum of this earth. Animal abuse has been at the top of my list of infuriating issues for a while now and the fact that people like you still exist makes me sick. My heart breaks for the dogs and cats who don’t know love until they are rescued. My heart breaks for the dogs and cats who starve because their owners believe that will “fix” them. My heart breaks for the dogs and cats who are left out in extreme weather or in dark rooms away from affection, of any kind. My heart breaks for the dogs and cats who die at the hands of their owners. Since it would be impossible for me to rescue and care for every abused animal in the world, all I can do is cherish my own pet and know that he is lucky.

Furthermore, from the bottom of my heart, I want to let you know that I hate you. I truly hate you and your abusive habits towards loving animals. I extend my hatred to those who train dogs to fight and kill and know nothing else and to those who run kill shelters. I hope you know that I am not the only one out there who hates you. Animal advocates are everywhere and trust me, some can be a bit worse than me.

I don’t care how old you are. If I see you abusing an animal, whether it is a puppy/kitten or a mature animal, I will act. I will call you out in front of everyone and let the world know what a monster you are. If you don’t like having pets, then don’t get them. If you cannot train your pet, then hire a trainer to help you. If your pet does something bad, perhaps chastise it. Do not hit, kick, punch, cut, pinch, or throw animals. They are not stuffed animals, they are living, breathing creatures of love and if you think that abusing them is the answer, then you do not deserve unconditional love.

There is a special place in hell for people like you. Learn to love your animals.

In case you're unaware, "resting bitch face" is the term used to describe when a person's natural, expressionless face makes it look like they are mad at the world. Whether they are walking down the street or simply spacing out thinking about what to eat for dinner, it's very easy for others to assume that this person is either upset or mad at them. Because of this, those of us with Resting Bitch Face (RBF), and especially us women, have all experienced many of the same situations and conversations, including:

We've all had a crush before. Whether it leads to something or nothing, the process has all been the same. The awkward feelings, the stalking, and the stress of trying to keep this huge secret. The feeling of becoming a total spazz is something that cannot be avoided, and the most spazzy family that can relate to this feeling is the Belcher's.

At the tender age of 18, we are bestowed with the title of “adult.” For 17 years, we live under the rules and guidelines of our parents, school, and government, and to stray from any of those rules or guidelines marks us as a rebel. At 18, though, we must choose which college we want to go to or what career we want. We are allowed and encouraged to vote. We can buy lottery tickets and cigarettes. We can drop out of school, leave our household, and do other "adult" things. At 18, we start down a path of thinking for ourselves, when for the entirety of our lives other institutions have been mandated to think and do for us.

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.
