My Love Affair With Food

I love it even when I hate it.

My Love Affair With Food

Disclaimer: I’m that girl who reads the articles titled “59 Reasons Why I Love Pizza More Than Boys” or “21 Mac ‘N’ Cheeses That Are Better Than a Boyfriend” (although I really think they dropped the ball on that last one, because, let’s be honest, nothing beats UConn’s bacon jalapeño mac ‘n’ cheese). I admit to being that girl. No, it’s not because I’m actually lonely and sad about my life (at least most of the time); I just really really really relate to these articles. Food actually means that much to me, and it definitely keeps me happier for way longer than any guy could. So, with that being said, here are the top seven foods that I’ll admit to being in love with.

7. Ice Cream - any flavor goes, but Ben & Jerry’s Cherry Garcia, is way up there

So before people start freaking out that ice cream is last on my list of foods I love more than guys, I’m honestly surprised that it made it onto my list at all. I’m just not an ice cream person - there, I said it. But, in its defense, there have been many nights when I’ve sat in bed with an entire pint of it and shamelessly eaten the whole thing.

6. Nutella

Because who doesn’t love it. Give me a jar of it and a spoon, and I’ll probably finish it by the end of the day. Also Nutella just tastes great on everything, and if you put it on strawberries it’s basically healthy.

5. Cheez-It

First of all, let me just say, it really bothers me that the packet says Cheez-It. Personally, I think that sounds like you’re talking about a single item. It really should be Cheez-Its. But moving on from that, I really do have an obsession with them. I always have a stash in my room, and I really don’t like to share (so if I’ve ever given you some, it’s safe to say you’re pretty important to me). There’s just something about them that’s really addicting, and I don’t care if you don’t like them, because you’re wrong.

4. Sushi

Not really sure if this even requires an actual explanation. Let’s just put it this way, I’ve probably spent a year’s worth of college tuition on all-you-can-eat sushi (okay, not really, but you get my point).

3. Wine

Yeah, I know, wine’s not actually a food. Doesn’t mean I can’t still love it as much as (more than) actual food. It’s not like you don’t all agree with me. If it makes you feel better, I also really like cheese … like, a lot. And wine and cheese sounds more acceptable, so we can go with that.

2. Waffles

Idk what to tell you, I just really like waffles. It actually ruins my entire day when I go to the dining hall in the morning and there aren’t any. Just to put it in perspective, one time there weren’t waffles for an entire week, so I made sure to talk to the manager and ask (really nicely) that he get them back. You shouldn’t keep a girl from her waffles. Especially at 7 in the morning. I also don't like syrup, but we don't have to talk about that.

1. Buffalo Chicken Salad (specifically from Husky Pizza)

If you don’t know what I mean by Husky Pizza, have you even lived? But in all honestly, I love their buffalo chicken salad. If that’s all I could ever eat again in my life, I don’t even think I would mind. I order it at least once a week, and it’s gotten to the point where the people taking my order know my name. But it’s okay, no shame.

So all in all, there are a lot of foods that I'm willing to confess my undying love for. This list could have been way longer, but I don't really want to write all that and you don't really want to read all that. So those are the important players in my life. Shout-out to all of you; you're the real MVPs.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
