Things are a little bit different now that we all went our separate ways. We went from talking every day to texting every once in a while. We went from showing up unannounced at each other's homes to planning our visits weeks in advance. Sometimes we find out information about each other's lives from Facebook or Twitter.
And that is okay.
There was a time in the past when we couldn't even imagine being so distant. I couldn't even imagine not seeing you every single day, but some things have to change. We moved away from home to better our lives, but that doesn't mean that we had to give up on our friendships. I am so thankful that we are able to maintain our friendship even though we are miles apart.
I think that it is important to say that even though I am here making new friends and you are making your own, it doesn't mean that I will be able to replace you. The reason that we have been friends for so long is because we are unique to each other and irreplaceable. If we've made it this long, there is no way that a little bit of distance or time is going to be the breaking point.
The best part about living far apart is that we get to visit each other. What is better than getting to see a new place and one of your favorite people all at once? Plus I love it when you visit my city and I get to pretend I'm a native and play tour guide.
One of my favorite things that happens when I see you, besides actually getting to see you, is that we never run out of things to talk about. When we have to fill each other in on everything that's been happening in our lives over the last several months, it takes up some time. Rarely do we get to get through it all because the stories seem to be endless. Even though I always feel like I always forget to tell you everything, I absolutely love getting to see you again.
Another thing that I absolutely love about our long-distant relationship are the random, out of the blue texts that I get every once in a while. It completely warms my heart when I get a sent a text or picture that says "This made me think of you." Regardless of the context, I love it when I unexpectedly hear from you.
I guess the best thing I can do is to thank you for keeping up the effort to maintain our long distance friendship. I'm so thankful that when we reconnect, we seem to pick up exactly where we left off, like no time has passed. I know that whether we are two hours apart or two days apart, our friendship would be just as strong as it is now.
I'm thankful that distance didn't erase you from my life.
