My Hopes For 2017

So much can happen in a year.

My Hopes For 2017
Erin Landry

We all have new year's resolutions and sometimes we get stuck in the cycle. We work towards our goals for about a month or two and then we stop putting in the effort. We put it off and say, "Maybe next year," waiting for January 1st to come around again. Why do we do this? I think the problem is we have the mindset that change can only begin on that one day a year, that we have to have a fresh start. However, there are 365 other days in a year and it's just an excuse to wait for that one day. If we spend our time waiting around, we are going to miss what is happening now. Every single day is a chance to improve and grow. Every day is an opportunity to change. Why should we waste our time when we can start today?

I hope you get the motivation to start. Don't just wish your dreams would come true, go out and make it happen. Chase after your goals until they become your reality. If you fall, it's okay. You just have to get back up and try again. We can't know success unless we've experienced trial and error. I hope you become more adventurous. We often get stuck in the mundane ordinary routines. Make each and every day completely different from the last and take as many chances as you can. Never pass up an opportunity to do something amazing. Go out on a whim and do something you never would have done in the past. Don't overthink it, be spontaneous and just go with the flow.

I hope you travel more. Whether it be family vacations, road trips with friends, or even just a weekend away in new place. Life is not meant to be lived in one place and there are far too many incredible places worth exploring. I hope you don't just exist, going through the motions. I hope you live and spend more time listening to your heart and doing the things that make you happy. Stop worrying about what other people think and focus on your own path. I hope you let go. Let go of everything weighing you down. Let go of toxic people, friendships, and relationships. Let go of grudges and allow yourself to forgive them, heal and move on. Let go of your mistakes and forgive yourself.

I hope you accept the circumstances that you cannot change and focus on the ones you can change. I hope you surround yourself with good people, good vibes and positivity only. Surround yourself with people who are rooting for you and love you. I hope you find the love that you deserve. I hope you learn to love yourself and be more confident in yourself. I hope you grow a deeper relationship with God. I hope you find happiness and peace within yourself. I hope you become the person you've always wanted to be. Most of all, I hope you take in every breath and appreciate every moment and every day as a gift.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
