High school is cruel. From the overcrowded hallways, to the disgusting and overpriced cafeteria food, high school is like a prison. Throughout all of this, however, there was always that one best friend who never turned their back, and always gave the exact motivation you needed to get through the day. In high school, I never realized how lucky I was to have a best friend like this, and maybe I should have thanked that person a little more often. So here are a few things I never thanked them for.
1. Food
On the days when the cafeteria was serving leftover food, I could always rely on you to hook me up with whatever you had brought with you. Or whenever I was in desperate need of a taco bell run, you were always down to come with me. Even on the holidays, I always knew where to go for the good cookin’ (my best friend’s home), and I thank you for that.
2. Math Class
Can I just say that I learned absolutely nothing in my high school math class? For more than one reason, but the best reason was because I was constantly entertained by my best friend. From the first day, when the teacher allowed us to sit anywhere and instantly regretted it, to the last day when she had us sitting at separate ends of the rooms but we still conversed through the phone (and laughing ridiculously at each other while doing so). You always made math class bearable, and I thank you for that.
3. BAND
Marching band was fun, let me tell you. Late night football games, singing obnoxiously loud on the bus rides (Phineas and Ferb theme song), making first division at competition, and letting me attempt to play your trombone in the stands. Band was unforgettable, and I thank you for that.
4. Motivation
In high school, whenever I actually needed to pass a math class, you were there to help me study. When marching band practice became a little too stressful, you were always there to listen to my rants. When I had a bad day, you always offered your shoulder to cry on. Now that I’m in college, two hours away from you, I can still text you for motivation and it doesn’t take you three minutes to reply with a written out speech. I never strayed from what was important, and I thank you for that.
You were and always will be my best friend. Consistently, undeniably, and unforgettably, my best friend forever. And I thank you for that.
