Making My List And Checking It Off: Summer Edition

Every summer for as long as I can remember my mom has made me sit down and write out a list of goals for the summer. Eventually, she stopped having to make me and I started doing it myself because I enjoy it. Since the school year is coming to an end, I decided to write out my goals ahead of time and share them here.

Work 40 Hours a Week

I've had my job for about 5 years now and every summer I work as much as I can to save up money. This way at the start of the school year when I have a lot going on I can still afford to live and not have to worry about the fact that I am not getting enough hours.

Workout 5 Days a Week

When I was in high school I played soccer and remained very active throughout the year. Ever since I came to college though I haven't been as active and I want to get back to working out consistently.

Read 3 Books

When I was a kid my mom made me and my brother have an hour of reading time every day and frequently took us to the library. But as I got older I spent less and less of my time reading and began to hate it. But now that I'm older I want to begin reading more.

Go to the Drive-in

My town is one of the few left with an up and running drive-in theatre. They keep it up an running and in pretty good condition. They even offer carload pricing on certain weekends throughout the season.

Eat Healthier

Along with the not working out in college, I haven't exactly been eating the healthiest either. So along with working out this summer, I am going to try and eat healthier and avoid eating as bad as I have been since being at school.

Visit my sisters and have them visit me

Over the course of the year, I have become extremely close to a few of my sorority sisters and three months is a long time for us to be apart and unfortunately, I am the only one who doesn't live in the same area as most of my friends. As a solution, I hope to go and visit them multiple times throughout the summer and have them visit me as well.

Volunteer at the Humane Society

I have to volunteer so many hours a semester for my sorority and while the hours I do in the summer don't count, going and volunteering at the local humane society gives me the chance to go and be around animals since I don't have any pets at the moment.

Buy and complete a 2000/3000 piece puzzle

Most of my summers the time that I'm not working, is usually spent watching Netflix and working on puzzles. It's my relaxation and my way of relieving any stress I get through work.

Sort and organize all of my stuff

With the school year coming to an end that means packing up my dorm and reorganizing everything back into my room. Also, I have to sort through all of my possessions and decide what I am taking next year to school and what I am storing for when I move into an apartment.

Continue writing for the Odyssey

I've been writing for the Odyssey for a few months now and while it is summer and school is only going to get harder from here on, I want to continue to write for the publication in order to get more writing practice under my belt.

Run/sign up for a race

I have been wanting to run a half marathon or some type of race for some time now. Every year I say that "this is the year I will do it", but never do. So one of my goals for this summer is to either run or sign up for an upcoming race and complete it.

Make a 101/1001

This is something I found online, its 101 things to accomplish in 1001 days. I've always enjoyed making lists and crossing things off and this is a way to motivate me to do a lot of things I want to accomplish and get done.

Start getting things for an apartment

After the next academic school year, I will be getting an apartment, which means I need stuff to fill an apartment and the nesecities to live. Since it takes a lot of money to get and supply a home I am going to begin buying things now and putting them aside for when I do have an apartment.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
