It has been one week of classes and two weeks since I moved into Henderson State University. And let me tell you -- it is weird.
Now, I don't mean weird as in the people here at my new school are weird. I mean weird as in, I wake up and know I am at college and then am confused for a brief moment as to why I am not at Cottey.
The weird is... Okay. It's fine. Really fine actually. I am happy where I am at. Guys, being on campus is a culture shock, and I can tell I haven't marched for the band in a long time. The sore muscles and the very hot showers to help with said muscles are welcome in my life again.
Probably the strangest part of this transfer is everyone is so welcoming. I didn't expect anyone to be mean, per say, but I never expected how welcome I feel. Many of the people I met somehow know "transfer student, has college experience, but is lost in this new world." I've made friends and found people to fondly tease, and get upset when my squad's table is claimed by not my squad. I'm looking into Greek life, and other organizations to join, finding people I know from class and Showband into things that are decidedly not band related.
It's weird, and odd, and different.
It's everything Cottey isn't.
And yet I am glad I'm here.
