If you’re like me and really enjoy music, you’re probably also always looking for some new artists to listen to and support. There’s just nothing better than discovering some new bands or artists and being able to follow them from the beginning of their careers to wherever they end up. It’s even better when they’re a new band so you can witness some of their first concerts and experience the intimacy of a smaller band’s show. Through my favorite radio station, Radio 104.5, I’ve gotten to discover some really cool new music- here’s a list I compiled of some of my favorite On The Verge Artists.

1. EDEN

Song you may know: “Fumes” (feat. gnash)

Song you should try out: “Drugs”

EDEN’s music is definitely unique and the album “I Think You Think Too Much Of Me” features a wide variety of style. There’s some more upbeat songs mixed with more relaxed, chill songs that I really love. It takes a lot to be able to produce music on each end of the spectrum- upbeat to relaxed.

2. Smallpools

Song you may know: “Dreaming”

Song you should try out: “Killer Whales”

Smallpools is one of those bands to listen to when you need a little pick-me-up during the day. Their music is infectious and gives off such positive vibes that it’s impossible not to feel good when listening. Plus, from what I’ve heard, they put on some of the best shows around which is one of the best qualities a band can have.

3. Miike Snow

Song you may have heard: “Genghis Khan”

Song you should try out: “The Heart of Me”

Miike Snow, especially his most recent album titled “iii”, has more of an electronic feel to his music. It’s super uplifting and peppy, and works really well to wake me up in the morning.

4. Judah & The Lion

Song you may have heard: “Take It All Back”

Song you should give a listen: “Graffiti Dreams”

Judah & The Lion has been my most recent discovery, thanks to Radio 104.5 and one of my friends. They give off a similar sound to bands like The Lumineers and Mumford & Sons, but are completely unique at the same time. Their album title, “Fold Hop n’ Roll” perfectly describes their sound- a balanced mix of several genres that surprisingly works really well.

5. Nothing But Thieves

Song you’ve probably heard: “Trip Switch”

Song to try out: “Emergency”

Nothing But Thieves has incredible instrumentals along with an extremely talented vocalist. They produce some really great alternative rock music, and definitely give off an edgy vibe as well. It’s easy to fall into the trap of having the classic alternative rock sound, but Nothing But Thieves definitely paved their own path and have their own unique sound.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
