My Favorite Kind Of People

You know we all have our type....

My favorite kind of people aren’t a certain group of people. They aren’t defined by gender nor ethnicity. Nor are they defined by physical characteristics, like hair color or weight. Many people say they have a “type”, for example a guy who prefers blonde girls, but personally I despise this. Honestly, what does hair color or race have to say about a person?

Sadly, today’s society lives by these labels. People are judged by numbers. We’re judged by our age. Our stature. Our weight. And, people are judged by their skin tone, hair color, complexion, our gender, and our sexual orientation. Why are all of these relevant?

There is so much more to a person. As previously mentioned, I hate when people say they have a “type”, but just to be hypocritical: the following is my “type”—my favorite kind of people.

My favorite kind of people are the people who care. They’re always there for you. All times of day, seven days a week, not just when it’s convenient for them. They truly care about your well being. They ask how your day was and how you slept last night. They listen to you rant about your problems, even if it takes hours and hours.

My favorite kind of people are the people who truly listen. Their eyes light up as you speak and you know you hold their undivided attention. They give you their opinion and it holds so much value to you. Conversations are meaningful and balanced and are the highlight of your day.

My favorite kind of people are the people who are honest. They don’t mess around with lies and there are no secrets. When they say something, you know they mean it. And when they make a promise, it’s a real promise.

My favorite kind of people are the people who are strong. I don’t give a shit if you can do 300 pushups in a row while balancing on a 20-foot high platform. Strong is about having morals and ethics. These people have a solid head on their shoulders. They know exactly who they are and it’s inspirational to me.

My favorite kind of people are the people who are respectful. Chivalry isn’t dead (although, it does sometimes seem to be in a coma). But, it’s so alive in these types of people. They’re always kind, not only to you but the people around you. They don’t put people down and are always offering a helping hand. They laugh and make others laugh, and sometimes when you’re with them you forget every bad thing that exists in the world.

My favorite kind of people are the people who make you you. I’ve never felt more like myself than when I’m with this type of person. They’re the kind of people who legitimately understand you. They give you their feedback and their opinion and sometimes this second perspective is exactly what you need. They make me me, and it’s amazing.

So, if we can’t judge people by numbers, then what can we accurately judge people by? Judge people by things that aren’t labelled. Get to know who they are. Get to know their hobbies and their childhood. Get to know their strengths and their weaknesses. And then you just might find your own (real) “type”—your favorite kind of people. And, man will you be happy.

What’s your type?

P.S. Thank you for being you, you know who you are.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
