To My Family Of 60, I'll Miss You

Remembering the last few days of senior year.

To My Family Of 60, I'll Miss You

Here we are. Official Alumni of Ouachita Christian School. This is so crazy! I can't believe I've only known you guys for three years. It feels like a lifetime of laughs, tears, and memories.

When I showed up at OCS on the first day of sophomore year, I was so timid. I was scared of you guys, literally. Everyone was so tall and skinny and pretty and you guys were truly intimidating. And there was the issue of making friends. Everyone seemed so close to everyone already and I thought there was going to be no way I was going to be able to butt my way in there. I was going to be the girl who ate alone in the bathroom or something else super sad. For those of you wondering, I never ever ate alone. Even when I tried to push everyone away so my parents would let me go back to my old school, I never ate alone. I made a few friends right off the bat. Friends I'm still friends with today. I lost some friends along the way, and I gained some friends along the way. I left sophomore year knowing that I would never forget my time at OCS.

Junior Year. Wow guys, we were almost done! Just one more year, we said. We can make it through one more year. That seems like it was just weeks ago. It's crazy to think its been almost two years since walking into Mrs. Dorsey and Mrs. Brasher's dreaded classes (we had heard stories) for the first time. From our first Powder Puff game, to our first JR/SR, we all dived in together, heads first. I'll never forget the group studies or exchanging of notes.

Then there's Senior Year. We made it! We were finally the top dogs. The year we had been preparing for our entire educational careers. We'll never forget senior week. Many, many pool parties, playing Hostage in the dark in an unknown neighborhood, wearing tacky Hawaiian costumes. We were there for each other through the senioritis, the emotional breakdowns, the laughs, and the tears. We all witnessed plenty of each. We were just always there it seemed like. From the group study sessions, to the few Waffle House meet up's. And we can't forget Mr. and Mrs. Inmans lectures. We got plenty of those (laughing emoji.) The two teachers who seemed to genuinely care about our well being the most. Definitely two people I will be revisiting. And the girls Christmas party! Great bonding experience, thank you Anna Catherine!

And then theres graduation and senior night. This was the night. We ironed our gowns and fixed our hair just right. We were born ready. We showed up to the church ready to get this thing over with so we could have some fun. We waited somewhat patiently while Miss Abby did her speech and Coach Harper started to call our names. Jessica Acree...Jordan Cromwell...Evan Downs...etc.. We were ready to hear our names. We threw our caps in the air and marched out with our heads high, the same way we came in, with Pomp and Circumstance playing in the background.

So to my family of 60; I love you guys. Y'all have helped me grow in ways I didn't even know possible. I care so much about each and every one of you, and I will miss y'all like crazy next year! I am praying hard for you guys and your futures. I hope this isn't a goodbye, but just a see you later. Y'all have helped me in more ways than I could ever explain these past three years, and I wouldn't trade the laughter and tears for anything in this world.

xo, Jordyn.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
