My 5 Favorite Things About Fall

I don’t know about you guys, but fall is my favorite season! Obviously, there are some not-so-good things about it. I know the beginning of fall means the beginning of school. Homework is gross. There’s no doubt about that. However, I think there are some things that make up for it.

1. The Holidays

Some of my favorite holidays are in fall. To be more precise, there are three that I love. In third place, would be Thanksgiving. I get good food and I get to see family I don’t get to see very often. But what I like most of all about the fourth Thursday in November is the giving thanks part. Don’t knock me for being cheesy, but I love that one day out of the year we can be extra thankful for all the blessings we have in our lives. The people we love, the fortunes we have and I’m not just thinking about monetary values. I’m talking about the roof over our heads and the food we eat. Some people don’t have that and I think it’s important to acknowledge everything we have. Going for the silver medal is Halloween. Who doesn’t love dressing up in awesome costumes and getting free candy? Sadly, I have passed the “proper” trick-or-treating age, but I love seeing all the little kids in their costumes. And, I’m not going to lie, if I see a kid in an especially awesome costume, I give him or her extra candy. Finally, in first place, drum roll please… my birthday!!! Because who doesn’t want to celebrate the birth of yours truly?

2. The Leaves

Growing up in central New York, I got a front row seat to the amazing colors that fall brings. They blend together in a way that can’t be recreated because no two fall seasons are the same. The colors you see this year that decorate the trees will never be seen again in the same way. I guess this loops around to the giving thanks thing I talked about. People hardly take the time to just enjoy the simple things that surround us. This is most definitely one of those things.

3. The Temperature Drop

Alright, I’m going to level with you. I love summer… but I hate it at the same time. As a proud member of the redhead community, if I go out in the sun for more than an hour, I’ll get as red as my hair. The sun hates me. So, when fall comes, I can go outside without clogging my pores with half a bottle of sunscreen. Also, I love hoodies. I mean, I LOVE them. I’ve bought two new ones already this season, and I promise there are more to come.

4. Dunkin Donuts Pumpkin Muffins

I know this is oddly specific, but if you know anything about me, you know the taste of anything pumpkin spice makes me gag. I don’t know what it is about these muffins, but they are the most amazing things on this Earth and I only get them three months out of the year. And that is during the fall season. If you have not yet tried these gifts from God, take my advice and change your life forever.

Finally... the last thing on my list is...

5. Bath & Body Works

Now, I will admit, I am a little bit obsessed. I will also admit that, that is a lie. I’m very obsessed to the point where it might be unhealthy, but I am going to emphasis the word “might” in that statement. I will go on to tell you that some of the best scents out of Bath & Body Works come out in the fall. I have spent a lot of money in this store so far this season. Some of my favorite scents include the Pumpkin Cupcake, the Pumpkin Apple Cider, and the Pumpkin Berry Crumble. I know not too long ago I hated pumpkin, but I hate the taste, I LOVE the smell. I also got Pear and Brown Sugar and the Champagne Apple and Honey. Now I could go on and on about Bath & Body Works, but for now, I’m limited to the fall season. That’s not including the candles. This season my favorite candles are the Pumpkin Pecan Waffle and the Caramel Pumpkin Swirl. My room has never smelled better.

Have a happy fall, everybody!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
