Music On The Mind

If there is one thing that I hope I will always love, it is music. Music has been a huge part of my life and I couldn't imagine not singing it or listening to it. There is not a day that goes by when I don't listen to music. One thing I really love about music is that there are so many different genres to match your mood. No matter what you are feeling you can always find a song that you can relate to. There are some songs and playlists that sometimes you just need to hear at a specific time. I definitely have some go to songs that I listen to depending on my mood.

When I'm working out

Lately, I have been successfully going to the gym with my roommate once a week. (It's not a lot, but hey it's progress!) I always try to find the perfect song that has a quick tempo to get me moving more. One song I can always count on is the Daft Punk medley by Pentatonix. Not only does the beatboxing in the background help immensely with pacing, it is also nice to have a bunch of different songs rolled into 5 minutes.

When I'm sad

I know I'm not the only who says this, but when I need a good sad song, I go straight to Taylor Swift. Somehow I relate to any one of her songs even if it isn't exactly what I'm going through. A good one to get me out of my funk is definitely Enchanted from her Speak Now album, that is one of my all-time favorites of hers.

When I'm happy

There is nothing wrong with keeping yourself up when you are already happy. Lately, the song I go to for keeping myself happy is Downtown by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. It just has such a fun beat it is hard not to sing along to.

When I'm studying

A while back I came across this group called the Dallas String Quartet. They do a bunch of covers on classic and new songs. I can sometimes get distracted when listening to my regular music. So just recently, I started listening to them again while working on homework and I have definitely been more productive. It helps me focus on the task at hand.

When I Want to Get Pumped Up

At the beginning of the term, a beautiful musical changed my life. Hamilton. The 46 different tracks have been played countless times thanks to Spotify and YouTube. I have so many of the songs memorized and constantly sing the songs around my friends. (They love me for that...) Hamilton is such an upbeat musical it is hard not to sing and dance along to it. To be quite honest, I'll listen to it no matter what mood I'm in. It's hard not to fall in love with the story.

It's important to know what type of music makes you feel good. And that is what is so amazing about music. The idea that there can be millions of songs out there, but you come across just one that changes your perspective. Music is one of the most powerful forces on earth. I will be forever grateful for any music that enters my life, good or bad. If it impacts me in some way, then it's doing the right thing.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
