At the beginning of freshman year my roommate and I were randomly selected to live together, and since then its blossomed into a wonderful friendship. Our dorm room has been the first place we could call our very own, and the decorations built over the months of holidays and birthdays. Some of my first college memories were in that room, and as I begin packing up my side, and watch my roommate do the same, I reflect on what we're saying goodbye to.
1. Not having air conditioning during orientation.
2. Midnight Chinese delivery bonding on the floor.
3. The first mental breakdown.
4. Vent sessions about boys.
5. Decorating for Christmas.
6. Swiffer dance parties.
7. Loud neighbors and impromptu guests.
8. Finals.
But the truth is, even though I'm saying goodbye to the room, it's not really a goodbye. I will no longer be the gentle new freshman but next year I'll still have a best friend by my side, and there are many more memories to be made in new dorm rooms with old friends.
