During Easter, we all get together for Easter Egg hunts and the celebration of Jesus Christ as he returns from the dead.
It's also the perfect time to watch any of these movies. I know a lot of you want to see me put down a lot of Easter Bunny films. But these are some underrated films that surround the holiday. The ones that I think deserve at least one viewing.
1. "Jesus Christ Superstar."
The stage rock opera by Andrew Lloyd Webber brought to the big screen tells the story of the last few weeks in the life of Jesus Christ. Music from the same man who gave us "The Phantom of the Opera?" SOLD!
2. "Ben-Hur."
The revenge tale of Judah Ben-Hur has gone down in history as one of the most well-known movies ever made. Despite its three-and-a-half-hour runtime (much like some of the other choices down the list), it's a film that seems to be all over networks around Easter, and that has to count for something.
3. "The Last Temptation of Christ."
Martin Scorsese, the director of "Taxi Driver," "Goodfellas," "The Departed," "The Wolf of Wall Street," etc., tells the story of Jesus Christ through the years with a star-studded cast: Willem Defoe as Jesus, Harvey Keitel as Judas, Barbara Hershey as Mary Magdalene, and the late David Bowie as Pontius Pilate.
4. "The Greatest Story Ever Told."
Simply put, it tells the life of Jesus Christ through the years much like "The Last Temptation of Christ." With the great Max von Sydow, who just recently had a quick cameo in "The Force Awakens," as Jesus Christ.
5. "The Ten Commandments."
One of the most famous films ever created that has become a staple in film history is Cecil B. DeMille's telling of the "Book of Exodus" when Moses goes back to Egypt to free his people from the pharaoh. With the famous Charlton Heston as Moses, who has been in two other films on this list ("Ben-Hur" and "The Greatest Story Ever Told"), "The Ten Commandments," much like "The Wizard of Oz," is a movie that needs to be watched even if you're not into film.
6. "Prince of Egypt."
Basically "The Ten Commandments," told as an animated musical, with a run time that's two hours shorter. Where "The Ten Commandments," tells its story straight from the Bible, "The Prince of Egypt," tells the story more like a Shakespearean drama. With themes such as family, and an enormous cast including Val Kilmer, Ralph Fiennes, Michelle Pfeiffer, Sandra Bullock, Jeff Goldblum, Danny Glover, Patrick Stewart, Helen Mirren, Steve Martin, and Martin Short, "The Prince of Egypt" is personally one of my favorite movies that should be experienced by everyone.
7. "Life of Brian."
I'll bet you weren't expecting to see a Monty Python film on here, were you? "Life of Brian" is one of the greatest religious satires ever made. It's crazy, ludicrous; sometimes it doesn't make sense, but what else would you expect from the same people who made this?
Probably not a movie for the kids, though.
