I love movies. I love comedies, pick-me-ups, romances, pretty much anything. However, there a few special movies that really changed the way I view the world. Here are a few special fictional and non-fictional characters that really dug deep into my heart.
1. "Still Alice" (2014) — The sad, touching story of renowned professor Alice Howland and her battle against Alzheimer's disease. Her memory starts to fail, she can't recall important events in her life, and she eventually forgets her family members. This movie urges viewers to really treasure the moment, to appreciate everything in life, and to keep lots of memories.
2. "Race"(2016) — Olympian Jesse Owen fights in the 1936 Olympic games for not only a medal but for equality and against the supremacy and racism surrounding the games. This movie gives a new, but also important and necessary, view into the evil and prejudice that have been present for hundreds of years.
3. "Contagion" (2011) — The dramatic, science fiction that follows a worldwide epidemic that is sweeping out nations and foiling the CDC's effort to find an effective vaccine. The movie starts on day two of the crisis and the key background information is not revealed until the end. This film made me more aware of the bacterium and germs that surround us all the time, everyday. This movie will make you want to run to the sink and scrub your hands for hours. Although that would be extreme, it is important to be aware of what is around us and the environments we live in.
4. "Argo" (2012) The dramatic biography of an undercover team of CIA agents trying to rescue American hostages in Iran in 1980. Similar to the way Race presents an alternate view of history, this is a new way to view the Iranian-American conflict. It is the story of the people who had a behind-the-scenes role in Iran at the time.
