Sometimes I need motivation. I have several things I want to accomplish, but I don’t feel like working towards it. What follows in this post is a collection of a few days’ thoughts. In order to “set the mood” and hopefully motivate you, I’ve included the songs that inspired me most when writing the piece. It is a journey, written in a few short paragraphs. But please, enjoy! Feel inspired, and let the motivation sink into your bones and veins and go make a difference today.
Many times I find myself conflicted on how to spend my free time, especially because this semester I have a large amount of “free time”. I have homework I can do, as well as other projects I can work on, but spending a large majority of my day working on assignments in my dorm room can really drag.
When dragging, I find myself struggling over how to better myself. What can I do with my extra time to make my life better? I constantly, constantly, find myself going back and forth between answers to this question. To be fair, this question should have a new answer every day, but whenever I answer the question, I can never get myself to act on that answer. The pattern repeats, and I am left questioning what to do next. Get a job? Try to find a relationship? Finally start work on a huge project? Use the time for leisure activities? I can never get myself to stick to what I decide.
Everything I just mentioned are all valid answers, because I am a person and we are people. We form and follow our lives based on the construct of time. We do our best to balance every aspect in our lives, and with that balance comes a daily puzzle in deciding how to spend our time. My problem isn’t coming up with options for that time, but rather making myself act on one of those options. With leisure activities being so tempting and easy, they usually become my default “go to” solution. In trying to keep productive, I’ll “give myself a break” from studying by checking social media. But usually that quick 5 minute break turns into a half hour of mindlessly scrolling social media.
I guess the point I’m driving at here is that if you want to make a difference, you have to be dedicated to doing so. Sometimes I think a gentle reminder of that can be good thing for myself, and probably others as well. I’m more conscious of the time I spend on my phone, and what I’m doing during that time. Long story short, you can make a difference in any (or every) aspect of your life. If you want to make a really big difference, you can do that too. You just have to be willing to work for it.
Make sure to be constantly inspiring yourself. Set the goal you want to achieve, and remind yourself of what it is. Just be careful to not let yourself wallow too much about your dream, because then it will slip by. Keep your end goal in mind, and watch out for every opportunity that comes your way. I promise you: anything is possible. You can achieve your dream.
