Man, 2017 sure was a whirlwind. With Russian investigations, natural disasters, and a series of other unfortunate events, 2017 seemed like the year that would never end. But 2017 was a great year for the internet, specifically meme culture. Buzzfeed recently released their "38 Great Memes That Defined 2017." From that list here are 12 of the most iconic memes of 2017.

1. "They changed the Hollywood sign again"

In almost the first week of 2017, a prankster went viral after photos were taken of the famous Hollywood being altered to read "Hollyweed." So instantly the internet took this and ran with it.

2. Salt Bae

Shortly after "Hollyweed," a video of Turkish chef Nusret Gökçe went viral after he sprinkled salt over his forearm while preparing a steak. Now, the meme describes all of us when we're being extra.

3. Cash Me Outside

The meme the internet loves to hate. While most people can agree that the girl, Bhad Bhabie, is one of the most annoying people of our generation, that phrase is just something we can't get over.

4. Roll Safe

Roll safe had us all second guessing all of our decisions.

5. What in Tarnation

This one kind of came out of nowhere but we are thankful for its existence.

6. Spongemock

There have been several other Spongebob memes out there like the "Confused Mr. Krabs" and "Caveman Spongebob." however, this one takes the cake.

7. The Babadook

Hindustan Times

Just in time for Pride month, the LGBT community welcomed their newest gay icon, the Babadook! Needless to say, 2017's Pride was Babashook.

8. Covfefe

Of course, I had to feature a Donald Trump meme! Earlier this year, Trump tweeted this infamous statement that got many of our heads turning. Covefefe? WHAT DOES IT ALL MEAN?

9. Meryl Streep

You're not really famous until you've been turned into a meme. In that case. Meryl Streep has finally achieved that. Because everyone can relate to one of those moments where you just got to shout it out.

10. "Nothing But Respect for MY President"

It's no secret that most millennials spent the year hating on President Trump. However, after one girl posted a picture of herself on Twitter cleaning Trump's star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, many others felt the need to respond.

11. Blinking White Guy

Needless to say, there were a lot of moments in 2017 that had us all shocked and confused. Who would've thought that were could encapture so many emotions in one little gif.

12. Distracted Boyfriend

Sometimes stock images can make the perfect memes. This one, in particular, created an endless amount of scenarios for what could be distracting this guy. And by the way, there's an entire stock photo backstory on this couple that can be found here .

Here's to another year of dank memes!

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
