It's Not Mondays That Suck
LovethisPic.com

"I know today is Monday and you assume it's going to suck but according to statistics there will be over 5,000 weddings, 10,000 childbirths, 42 million hugs, at least four people will win the multimillion dollar lotteries, 600 people will get promotions at work, 3,000 people will lose their virginity, 600 dogs will be adopted, 35,000 balloons will be sold, 800,000 skittles will be sold, 'I love you' will be said over 9 million times. So according to statistics, it should actually be a really nice day." - Unknown.

It's the start of the school/work week after an exciting weekend. It's the first day after two days that you can't sleep in. It's Monday. Dreading Mondays are simple -- you either do or you don't. You're either up before your alarm, ready for the week to start or you're constantly pressing snooze, hoping that you can just not adult for the day. Because, contrary to popular belief, it isn't Mondays that suck -- it's what you have to do on them that do.

Imagine waking up Monday willing and excited to go to work/school. Imagine not coming home to the bottle after your rough day. Imagine the path you chose was different and you genuinely enjoyed your job or class schedule. Maybe then Mondays wouldn't be so bad.

It’s not just the end of the weekend you’re dreading, it’s the beginning of your horrible week. It’s not the six-letter word that causes you angst and fear, it’s what that word represents. And if Monday threatens you the same way a sentencing date does for a prisoner, you may need to reexamine your case. Mondays don’t come attached to dread and pain: You created it.

If you enjoy sitting in traffic more than what you actually have to do on Mondays, it might be time to change what you're doing. Let's face it, no one actually wants to go to work/school. I'm sure every single person has at least one other thing that they would rather do. But going to work and/or school shouldn't be a chore; it shouldn't make you unhappy. After all, your happiness is all that matters. Change up your routine, quit your job, change your major -- anything that will make you eager and excited to start your week. There are too many awesome opportunities in the world to not take advantage of to hate Mondays.

You don't have to endure Mondays this way. You can look forward to Mondays, or at least not detest them. You can actually anticipate the work week, or at least not spend Sunday nights thinking of ridiculous, yet just plausible enough excuses as to why you can’t make it in the next morning. Once you accept those bags underneath your eyes and brace the Monday blues, you're already one step in the right direction of enjoying your Monday's.

So now that it is Monday, how are you going to make it a great day?

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
