A Thank You To My Mom

Thank you for giving me tough love when I need it, even when I don't want to hear it.

A Thank You To My Mom
Alexandra Martin

I’m writing this because I think that all of the moms out there need to be more appreciated.

There are so many things that moms do for their children, whether they are big or small. Of course, there are different types of moms: the strict moms, the cool moms, the soccer moms, and the loving moms. If you're lucky, you might get all of them!

There are so many things that are moms do for us every day, that we might not even think about. For one, they always make sure that we get our homework done and we get it checked if need be. If your mom works, she is probably exhausted from the day, but still manages to make a good meal for her family. If your mom stays home, she is doing things around the house trying to make it as comfortable as she can.

I've never really thought about how much my mom did for me until I left for college. I miss coming home to good meals and talking about all of the drama that is going on in my life. Of course, she is just one phone call away, but it really does mean more when it's in person. I miss being able to go to the mall with my mom so that she can tell me what looks good on me and what doesn't.

Although we didn't bake too much together when I was in high school, it always so much fun when we did. She always made sure that I got to lick the spoon when we were finally done making the batter. It's the little things that really did mean the most to me and I really do miss them more than she thinks.

I wanted to thank my mom for being my number one fan. There have been a lot of major events that have happened in my life, but she has always been there since day one. Even though we haven't always gotten along, at the end of the day there is no one else I would rather tell half of my problems to.

She gives me the tough love I need, especially when it involves the relationships or friendships I'm in.

Thank you for being there for me when I needed a shoulder to cry on and when I needed extra encouragement to do something outside my comfort zone. I couldn't do a lot of the things I am doing without your support and I hope it's the same feeling for you. You are beautiful inside and out. Don't let anyone tell you any differently.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
