It is a blessing and a curse when you are the "mom" friend of the group.

You know how to manage your life pretty well and stay on top of things. You are also there when friends need help with things like organizing and cleaning. However, being the "mom" friend isn't always glamours. Sometimes it may feel like you are being overbearing with your roommates and they can get annoyed. I know this to be true people! Or you might be seen a little crazy because you worry about everything and always need to have things planned out. I also know this to be true!

However, even when you are tasked with the "mom" title out of the group, it really is rewarding. You get the fulfillment out of helping others when they need it and being there when a friend needs someone to speak truth to them from time to time. It is also rewarding when you are seen as responsible because you believe your life is somewhat on track when really, you are in the same boat as everyone else your age. We just know how to cook and plan schedules well!

Here are just a couple of things we "mom" friends experience on a weekly basis.

1.You are constantly asked questions about finances.

When your friend isn’t sure how to pay a certain bill, settle a card dispute, or read their bank statement, you are usually the first person they call because they do not want their actual mom nagging them.

2. If your roommate isn't sure how to do laundry correctly, we get a text seeking help.

Always, always, ALWAYS, wash clothes in cold water to keep color bleeding down and prevent shrinkage. Hot water with towels and rags. Trust us, we know what we are talking about.

3. You’re the person your friend runs to when they need help packing.

Roll those shirts and put them in your shoes! Do you really eight pairs of shoes for a three day trip? Consolidate, my friends.

4. When out at social events, you turn into the portable coat hanger.

We are seen as the purse and coat holders because it is what we do. It was like we were gifted this duty at birth.

5. You are usually the most responsible one out of the friend group, usually.

Hey, automatically comes with the “mom friend” title!

6. You seem to be the only one who has an escape route planned when in a sketchy part of town.

“Okay, we are going east on Main St. and do not go down the alleys!”

7. Most people think you are the boring one out of your friends.

Eh, not always true. Mom friends can be responsible and have fun at the same time!

8. We think worse case scenario when we are invited out.

“Will there be sketchy people? Will I get enough sleep for tomorrow? What if I forget where my car is parked?!?!!?”

9. People tell us we worry too much.

Yes, we do worry a lot but you know what, we will be prepared when we need to be!

10. If there is bad weather coming, we lose our minds!

"Fill the tub with water! Charge your phones! Stay away from the windows!"

11. We text our roommates when they're not home by a certain time.

“Hi, hope you are alive. You better text me back before I start worrying, missy!”

12. We are always reminding our roommates to keep the air on a reasonable temperature because we do not play around with the power bill.

SAVE THAT MONEY!

13. We then hang notes around the house reminding our roommates to do #12.

Like I said, we are not playing around.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
