Timeless elegance is now becoming a memory. The vintage, 30’s dresses and rhinestone jewelry has faded and has been replaced with a new, modern look. Fashion has always been a unique work of art, but now with more statement and a hint of edge. As the world continues to evolve, readers depict what they want to see in the latest, trending magazines.
A model in the winter issue of Vogue, draped in luxury clothing and high-end accessories is something much of the world can only admire. Sure, it’s gorgeous, but that want is slowly changing.
Consumers want to read an article with depth and more meaning, and now is the time for newcomers to the magazine industry to finally realize it. A magazine such as Refinery 29 is already jumping onto this idealistic form for readers, and the feedback has been positive across the board. In a previous meeting I attended last week, someone mentioned Refinery 29 as a magazine to set the new standards.
Readers also want the fashion they see to be more accessible. Stylists are beginning to mix outfits with high-end and everyday brands. A Chanel dress might be paired with Zara shoes. This is the new way to show consumers that not everything they want to wear is out of reach.
Magazines are changing the way readers look at luxury living. Newer articles give examples of vacation spots or things to do that aren’t too expensive to attend. They’re beginning to make what they publish more relatable and are no longer about a life that readers only dream about.
Fashion is starting to become the new vehicle for political movements, especially with the latest political debates and upcoming presidential election. It’s a quiet, peaceful way to get a message to the public and show the public where a magazine stands on an issue.
Certain ideas presented bring readers together and show them they aren’t alone with certain topics they might feel strongly about. A movement such as body positivity is now a trending characteristic that began with a small group of people and has now grown on a global scale. Instead of finding models with the “perfect” size, magazines are branching out with models in every form. Publications are making a statement to show people equality in who they are no matter what they look like or believe in.
With the way magazines are progressing, newer publications are slowly transforming into a powerhouse of new, creative ideas that break away from the cookie-cutter look of the “typical” layout seen everywhere.
I still idolize magazines like Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar, but not in the same way as before. They’ve become a strong base in the way readers look at writing and design and have been a main part of the inspiration for my career choice. However, it’s time to branch away and look at a modern twist of written works, and it has become a positive thing to see media change and grow with the way they cater to readers.
