Modeling: What You See And The Truth

Do you really see what's in front of that camera?

Modeling: What You See And The Truth

Let's get right down to it. Modeling has its positives and its negatives. Everyone gets something different from the experience as a model, however, it's not always the greatest outcome. You may ask, how is that possible? You get all dolled up and photoshopped to look picture perfect! Right there, that's the problem. We are dolled up to "enhance" our beauty and photoshopped to "perfect" our appearances.

If you had to be in make-up all the time and always be photoshopped because you aren't absolutely perfect, wouldn't you feel a little discouraged at least? You may see what the photo brings you, but you could never possibly read what's going on inside. The negative side of modeling, is the constant comparison to other models. Why don't I have blue eyes? Why don't I have those cheekbones or this waist? Why are my thighs so big? These questions to ourselves can tear us down and make us feel worthless. People may look at me and say, "I wish I was her." However, they don't realize I'm saying the same thing about someone else.

Now the positives of modeling include coming out of your shell or stepping out of your comfort zone and gaining that self confidence. Being in front of a camera can be scary, and it gets the best of all of us sometimes. Posing in front of a camera has helped me bring out my creative side and my own fashion sense. When I model I feel I am creating art, and to me art is such a beautiful thing and it speaks to me. Being in front of a camera makes you so vulnerable, and you must let yourself give into it.

Trust me, after every photoshoot, I immediately look at every photo and critique myself. "If I had done this I wouldn't look so awkward." Or "If I had done this I wouldn't look so boring." I have learned to tell myself, "no one person on this planet is absolutely perfect, so don't hold yourself accountable." How I constantly critique my appearance has always been a struggle of mine, but I never let it defeat me. I am better than that person I see in the mirror and she is worth more than I tend to give her credit for.

We as people, love different parts of the human body, and we tend to prefer it to look a certain way that catches our eye in our own opinion. Some love bigger butts, some love small. Some love thin, and some love curvy. We all have to remember, we can't please every single person. We need to remember to please ourselves. How you see yourself as beautiful is the most important of all. Everyone, flaunt what your mama gave you because she only made one you from scratch!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
