College is a new and exciting adventure we experience after high school. Not everyone knows what to expect or what to do Freshman year of college. Sometimes it can be scary to try new things, but that’s what college is all about. And with growth comes mistakes made.

1. Not Making Friends In The Dorms:

First week of living on campus is overwhelming to say the least. Figuring out where classes are and who your new roommate and suite-mates are, is exhausting. Sometimes we forget to make meaningful friendships. Maybe all you say to your new neighbors is a random “Hi” or “What's up” but reality is, not making friends with the people you live next to is one of the biggest mistakes to be made at college. Starting a conversation with them and finding common interest is way better than trying to avoid them everyday for a year.

2. Not Stocking Up On Food Before The Weekend:

This is the most notable mistake. If I can stress anything, it would be this one mistake. College offers a wide variety of food on campus throughout the weeks, but most campus diners will be closed on the weekends. This means stock up on anything and everything. Like fruits, cereal, snacks, and milk. Waking up with an empty stomach is the worst way to start the day.

3. 8 a.m’s:

Need I say more? Most students think that signing up for an 8 a.m is wise. Trust me, it is anything but wise. Think about it, living in close quarters to another student. Most likely than not, going to bed early is out of the question. Being the first one to wake up while it is still dark out is not ideal, especially when you do not want to turn on the huge overhead light. P.S (If you absolutely have to take an 8 a.m and do not want to wake up your roomate, buy a string of Christmas lights. They’re not as bright).

4. Not Planning Lunch Between Classes:

When signing up for classes, we tend to forget about a lunch break. Sitting in class while your stomach is screaming for some food is not helpful when you’re trying to learn. So remember, schedule in a lunch break and even dinner if you’re taking late classes.

5. Procrastination:

This happens all the time, not just Freshman year. Most students are guilty of procrastination, and even say “I do better under pressure.” Which may be true, but reality is that when procrationation comes so does regret. Keep a planner and stay on top of your homework, this way you have time to relax and watch your favorite netflix show.

Hopefully, if you’re going to be an incoming Freshman you benefited from these tips. Maybe even learn a few more things that work for you!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
