Looking to improve yourself but you're just not so sure about meditation? Don't worry, you no longer have to be a “hippie” or “monk” to indulge in the amazing benefits of meditation. With so many amazing benefits of meditation who wouldn’t take a few minutes out of their day to start practicing it. Here are 4 awesome benefits that are sure to make you think twice about judging the amazing practice. The meditation technic that will be discussed in this article is mindfulness meditation. This meditation method is really easy to learn and doesn't take much time to do every day.

1. Improved Prioritization & Focus

Mindfulness meditation allows you to have a clearer train of thought. Our thoughts can become overwhelming and cluttered. This is why we overthink and dwell on things that are of less importance. Our minds can only focus on one thing at a time. Think of a giraffe eating lettuce out of a cereal bowl. You’re probably not only thinking of that but seeing that imagery in your head. Mindfulness allows you to improve on focusing on one thing. Which in turn, allows you to prioritize your thoughts.

2. Improved Copping Skills & Resilience

There are good coping skills and bad ones. When faced with challenges, we tend to turn to things that may bring comfort. Drinking alcohol, smoking, and pondering on the past are examples of bad coping skills. These are not extremely effective and may cause you to question pass decisions that are no longer relevant. Instead of feeling down and depressed you will be able to identify why your struggling and correct it.

3. Realization of the Present & Self-Acceptance

Meditation allows you to focus on the present which is amazing and enables you to grow as a person. We can’t change the past, and we can’t predict the future. Why worry about past and present when all we have control over is the present moment in our own lives. All that is important is what you can do right now to achieve whatever it is you desire. Personally, I see this as the largest benefit. It’s almost as if you feel a fog lifted once you can focus on nothing else other than the here and now. I’ve noticed a mindset focused on, what can I do right now to get to where I want to be. Instead of thinking like, I really wish I would have done this, or, dang why am I not more like that.

4. Increased Emotion Regulation and Self-Control

Through this method of meditation, you’ll be able to interpret your own thoughts and feels much easier. Instead of getting mad for instance, your mind will realize what is happening due to your new increased focus. It’s not that things matter less though meditation, it just makes the unexpected moments easier to handle. The good times will mean so much more to you and the bad ones will be easier to handle.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
