This election has been one of the most outrageous, controversial, and horrendous elections I think many of us have seen in our lifetime. Many people are feeling like their votes aren't going to mean anything, or they are picking between a lesser of two evils. But, most importantly the younger generation that get to vote for the first time this election, are feeling incredibly let down by our democracy, and ultimately feel like their voices are just too small--they aren't being heard. I urge you all--get out and vote November 8. Political differences aside, this might be one of the most important elections in our lifetime and we have the chance to be heard if we all come together democrat, republican, independent, etc and vote for our country's success.
This election has made me feel deep sorrow for our country, we are the most divided I think we've ever been. Both candidates have made mistakes, have lied, and have let down the people of America. This makes it extremely difficult to choose who would do our country justice. We end up asking ourselves who we can trust more and the answer is in some grey area and is hard to pinpoint. It's very easy for our generation to sit behind a screen, share This is Now videos and think we are actually influencing the outcome of this election. In reality, the only way to do that is to go out and vote for who we think is best. This should be such an exciting time: getting to go to the booths for the first times in our lives and feel like we're making a difference. Instead, we're getting in heated arguments, throwing blame at either candidate (some valid) but, not actually taking the time to step back away from social media, away from our screens to make sure we are as educated as possible on who we feel would run this country best. Both candidates have acted clownish, have had bad temperates at times, and have made it very hard for the american people to feel comfortable in their decision making.
Then we have Jill Stein and Gary Johnson, who aren't getting much media attention at all. I think third party candidates should get more coverage and acknowledgment from our democracy, but this election isn't set up for them. There is so much fear and anger, that voting for them wouldn't help them get into office. As much as I love this idea, it's proven with Bernie. He was running as a democrat and couldn't make it past the primaries. Third party candidates are up against two of the most influential candidates in history, and they haven't given them much of a chance for success in this election.
If we could do this election over again, I know most people would agree, but we have to keep moving forward and make the most educated decision we can this November. We have a chance to really help shape this country for our children and speaking your mind only on Facebook or Twitter isn't going to save this country from Trump or Hillary. November is still going to come, and one of them is going to become President whether we vote or not, so why not get out to the voting booths and prove to ourselves that we can be heard--that our voice does matter. October 11 is the last day to register to vote. Make your voice heard this election and let's make a difference!
