I'm a Millennial that doesn't like Bernie Sanders, but just because my views do not correlate with his does not make me some kind of fascist monster. Just because I think that he is not who this country needs to have sitting in the Oval Office does not give everyone the right to deride me and treat me as if my opinion doesn't matter. My opinion matters just as much as yours. I might not be going to marches in support of Sanders and I might not #FeelTheBern, but the fact that my peers find my opinion to be flat out wrong is ludicrous. Everyone is entitled to share their opinions when it comes to who is the next president.
I'm a self-proclaimed Libertarian, which is not the same as Socialist, Republican, Democrat, or Populist. I'm liberal when it comes to social issues and conservative when it comes to economic issues. Most people don't understand what I mean when I say I'm a Libertarian, so they don't understand why my views differ strongly from a good half of Bernie's platform. How do I know that people don't understand? Because the second I claim to be a Libertarian, others tell me that I don't care about equality, human rights, and that I look down on others. That's not it AT ALL. I'm completely for human rights, equality, and I incessantly fight to make sure that I can help create change so that everyone can feel comfortable with who they are, how they feel, and how they express themselves. It's just when I hear "distribution of wealth" and see that people making over $250,000 a year might be getting a hike in their taxes, I don't agree with the ideology.
When I think of what is being proposed, I see this coming more and more into play:
(Before I get berated for sharing the video, this is not meant to represent every single person living in the United States because there millions of different economic situations and I'm not trying to denounce that.)
I'm sorry if I think that isn't fair, but I shouldn't have to apologize. I shouldn't have to apologize just like those siding with Bernie Sanders don't have to apologize about the fact that they find that to be fair.
I'm a Millennial that doesn't support Bernie Sanders, but that doesn't mean I'm backing any other candidate, either. I don't know what the right choice is for this election because I don't agree with anyone who's still running for office. When people see that I'm not sporting a sticker in support of Bernie on my laptop, they'll tell me, "How can you possibly think Hillary is a sound option?" or "And you think that Trump is a better option?" NO. I never said that I think Clinton is better or that Trump is my candidate of choice. I'm a political science major and yet I'm at a crossroads because I don't know who should be the next president, because there's so many factors to consider aside from "free" higher education.
I believe that government should be smaller, and that's not something that's wrong to think. It's an opinion, and I, as well as every other Millennial who thinks Sanders is not the right guy, are sick of hearing that our opinions are wrong. We're tired of being silenced by our cohorts.
I'm a Millennial that doesn't support Bernie Sanders and that isn't a crime.
