Generation Y. The Millennials. Echo Boomers. We need to step up our game and prove the Baby Boomers wrong. *Following article does not apply to everyone*
Generation Y:
A generation that is known for our narcissism, entitlement, and materialist tendencies. They call us the "me me me generation," and blame it on the growth of social media and selfies. Some will say that we are "coddled," "selfish," and "lazy." Liberal is our middle name. We are motivated by money and fame. We get trophies for participation and not for hard work. We don't have work ethic. We believe that we should automatically be promoted if we've been working there for a year. We want money but we don't want to work for it. We don't respect authority. We think that everyone and everything is out to get us. We are really good at taking but not giving.
Generation Selfie and Selfish:
We like to be complimented on anything and everything. Whoever gets the most likes on a selfie wins. Posting hashtags on Instagram pictures just so you can become "Insta-famous" is a thing. We make videos about our lives thinking that people care. We constantly compare ourselves to celebrities and try to become one.
Generation Party:
We binge drink. We like to get drunk and make fools of ourselves. We think its cool and funny to post pictures of us drinking, smoking and puking. But, little do you know that you won't get that dream job because of this. We make sure that we have 100 second Snapchat stories. Did you even go out if you didn't snap it?
Generation Accepted (but not really):
We advocate and claim to support every living creature, no matter how they identify. We protest, rally, and create petitions with open views. Battling for equality is what we are good at. We say no to tradition and astigmatic beliefs to make room for new norms. We claim that the established traditions are "unfair" and "prejudiced." Most don't base their morals off that "1,000 year old book" but create their own morals off of their experiences. We hide behind indirect tweets and closed doors. We talk about people behind their backs. We end friendships because of beliefs and sexual orientation.
Generation Connected:
We live off of social media and spend hours online, constantly being connected with others and even making new friends. We are beginning to lose the ability to communicate face to face. You have a better chance of receiving a text before a call from us.
Generation Hook Up:
We're really good at confusing sex with intimacy. Dating isn't a thing within Gen Y. We distract dating by hooking up. Relationships are suffocated by texts and social media. It's hard to date when you're every move is posted on someones timeline. Oh, he liked her Instagram picture? You should probably break up.
Generation Blameless:
As a whole, millennials don't own up to their mistakes. They either blame it on their teachers, friends, parents or the random stranger that made you late to class even though you really stopped to get Starbucks. We are really good at being "perfect" and we NEVER make mistakes. Like never ever.
As generation Y, we've seen the world grow right before our eyes and we forget about the past. And honestly, we need to put down our cell phones, delete that twitter app, stop taking selfies and learn what work ethic is -or else our future is screwed.
