As we head into the final weeks of the first half of the NFL schedule, we have seen some very good football being played. There have been a ton of players that have been key to their teams and deserve recognition for their efforts as being candidates for MVP this season. I have chosen the fllowing players as first half MVP candidates:
Tom Brady
I don't think that there has been a better player in the National Football League than Tom Brady. He's put up numbers that are coming up better than his numbers from 2007, when they went 16-0 in the regular season. At 38, Brady has thrown for 11 touchdowns and over 1,700 yards. The passion he has brought this season is like no other after the allegations of "deflategate." He's got a chip on his shoulder, and he's out to prove to everyone that he's still the best around.
Aaron Rodgers
Aaron Rodgers has been, well, doing Aaron Rodgers things. The Packers QB has been stellar this season, even without his go-to receiver Jordy Nelson. Rodgers has thrown for 15 touchdowns and over 1,500 yards in the six games they have played. He is leading one of if not the best team in the NFC right now. At the rate he's going, he could very well be an MVP candidate.
Julio Jones
Julio Jones has turned into one of the best wide receivers in the NFL this season. Jones has been a force to be reckoned with; having a combination of size and strength, he's a clear threat to every defense he faces. Jones has 49 catches for 638 yards and four touchdowns. Jones has been one of the reasons that his team has been has been so good this season.
Andy Dalton
I'm not ready to call Dalton an elite quarterback, but he has produced nicely this season for the Bengals, who are flying under the radar at 6-0. Dalton has a ton of options in his offense, like Tyler Eifert and A.J. Green. Dalton has utilized his options to throw for 14 touchdowns and over 1,700 yards. It'll be fun to see what Dalton can do in the second half of this season.
Cam Newton
Cam Newton has been, to me, one of the most underrated players in the league this season. Newton doesn't have the people around him that the others do. The only real target he has is Greg Olsen and for him to bring this team to an undefeated record. He has been nothing but spectacular, as he has thrown for eight touchdowns and over 1,000 yards. If he continues to go at this pace, he could definitely be a finalist for the MVP.
