The First 10 Things I'll Do As Soon As I Get Back To Miami University And Oxford, OH
Mady Neal

As with entering any new home, you begin to discover new and special traits that only this new place has. Or even if you are somehow able to export your beloved Oxford classics to wherever you live, well, it's just not MU. So with that in mind, I've compiled a list of the first things I'm going to be sure to do when I get back on campus (and yes, a lot of them are food related, but I'm a college kid, therefore I'm always hungry, so leave me alone)!

1. Go to Starbucks.

Anyone who knows me knows that I'm obsessed with coffee. So it shouldn't be a surprise that the first thing I'll do is head over to the campus Bucks and get my usual.

2. Go to Bagel and Deli.

While I'm sipping on my delicious grande skinny mocha, I'll head uptown to the famous Bagel and Deli where I'll begin my bucket list goal of tasting every bagel on the menu. And with over a hundred selections, it's going to take me a while, so I better get started.

3. Go to the Oxford Farmers Market.

Even though it's a struggle to get up on time on a Saturday to get to the market, my roommate and I will be sure to hit it to pick up some fresh fruit and, of course, to expand our collection of tiny succulents to accent our dorm room.

4. Figure out the fastest way to class.

Maybe even above my love for coffee is my love for sleep and naps, so now that I've registered for all of my classes, I'll definitely try and figure out the fastest way to get to class, so I can sleep that extra five minutes. Any little bit counts, especially on a Monday morning!

5. Catch up with friends.

Friends!

This should be at the top of the list, because it goes without saying that seeing my best friends, who are now my neighbors, will be my number one priority once we all move in to the new dorm.

6. Take a late night trip to MacCracken.

Not that we ever need the snacks we're so desperate to buy from this on-campus store at all hours of the night, nor are we particularly hungry, but to make the trek to MacCracken is a tradition nonetheless!

7. Unpack.

All settled in!

Bobbie Hall

This may seem obvious, but it is really important to take the time to unpack and organize everything, in order to make it easier to settle in and enjoy getting back to the normal school grind.

8. Find this year's best study spots.

Last year we knew all the best nooks and crannies on the southern end of campus to knock out a paper or to study for an exam with the least amount of disturbances as possible. Only this year, we'll have to start from square one, seeing as we're on the opposite end of campus.

9. Make my return to the dining halls.

Pulley - an MU classic

We love it (sometimes) and we love to hate it, but what is college without the quintessential experience of eating in the dining hall, with all its shortages of forks and mysterious types of meats.

10. Buy some new Miami gear.

Twinning!

Mady Neal

New year, new you. But don't forget to show some university spirit! Treat yourself to a new Miami t-shirt as you settle back in to being a RedHawk and going to all the games.

With the time ticking down to your next year on campus, what are you most excited about?

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
