Over the past week, we have seen the hashtag #MeToo take to social media. What this is all about is that if you have ever been sexually assaulted or sexually harassed all you do is just post "#MeToo" as your Facebook status or tweet it.
This movement has taken over all of social media because we often to don't want to talk about situations that make us uncomfortable. With this movement, people can say this simple hashtag without having to say anything else about it, people will just know that it is something that happened to them.
Along with the hashtag #MeToo, I have also seen males putting out the hashtag #ItWasMe. Males have been doing this to not only own up to what they have witnessed from their male friends but also to say sorry if they have ever done it. This also takes a lot of courage for males to do this because usually, we see males as people who will just brush off these situations and not care about them.
October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. With these hashtags going around on social media, I want to encourage every single person out there, no matter if you are female, male or transgender to speak up. If something like this has happened to you, I want to encourage you to talk to someone. In no way am I saying that you should post about it on social media, that is your own personal choice. But talking to someone about these situations can help you mentally. Going to counseling appointments to talk to a counselor, is not a bad thing. Don't let anybody tell you that because you are in therapy there is something wrong with you. There is nothing wrong with wanting to go and get help for yourself mentally.
Love shouldn't hurt. Purple is the color for National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, I encourage everybody to wear purple.
Thank you to everybody who has had the courage to share their story.
