When I say Merry Christmas to you, I am not trying to offend you; I am trying to spread the love and kindness I celebrate as a Christian.
Let me repeat, I am not trying to offend you.
With that being said, let me inform you that I will absolutely not refrain to saying “Happy Holidays” in the hopes of sounding politically correct. There is a separation of church and state and therefore nothing I say regarding my church or faith should ever have to be deemed politically correct or not.
Again, I do not say “Merry Christmas” to offend you.
Why do I say “Merry Christmas” to any and all people I encounter during this time of year?
I believe that through Jesus’ birth and life, which are specifically celebrated on Christmas, he promoted love and kindness for all people. It did not matter if they were strangers, family, or friends. Everyone was treated with the same respect and care.
By saying “Merry Christmas” I am wishing for you to be surrounded by loving kindness. I am not trying to force my religion or beliefs on you by it, I'm simply letting you know that from the most genuine part of my heart, I want your own heart to be filled and blessed.
So Merry Christmas everyone! Please enjoy this time with your family and friends as you come together and break bread. Remember it is not about the gifts you give or receive, but the people and love behind them. Be thankful for what you have and share what you can with others, whether it's just a simple act of kindness or a donation to the Salvation Army.
For those of you who do not celebrate Christmas due to your own religious beliefs, I wish you are blessed in every way throughout your own celebrations this time of year. I love to hear people say, "Happy Hanukkah" or "Happy Kwanzaa." It reminds me that despite our differences in beliefs, we all still care about one another and want the best for them. I believe that is the type of spirit all of these holidays wish to share.
