I love my cat. He is my fur baby, and I am a proud cat Mom. However, being a cat owner is not the most wonderful thing in the world. Just having adopted my own kitten; Nugget is his name, I thought it would be easy. I adopted him about one month ago and everything seemed extremely easy for the first few days. Cats seem like they are self-reliable, and extremely independent, which for the most part they are, but I was wrong. After the first week, Nugget became extremely comfortable and started showing just how crazy he really was. That is when I discovered it is not easy owning a cat what-so-ever. There are times I want to pull my hair out because of how frustrated he makes me.
I love him with all my heart, but here are the six most aggravating things cats do that make us cat owners mentally deranged:1. The 3:00 AM wake up calls.
It is 3:45 AM, and I am happily asleep. I'm comfortable in my bed, snuggled with my blankets, and then it happens. My cat jumps on my face. He is pulling at my hair, and swatting my feet as I now toss and turn under my blankets. My cat thinks it's play time and it is certainly not. After twenty minutes of me trying to grab him as he runs away and hides, I finally get him to calm down. Oh, wait, I spoke too soon. He now is attacking my hands.
2. The random attacks only while doing important work.
I have two hours to do an entire research paper. I have everything laid out on my bed in the order that it needs to be in, and suddenly one of the papers goes missing. I can hear this crumbling sound coming from underneath my bed. Oh look, it's my missing page, that is now completely ripped, and bitten up. This happens to most cat owners, and sadly this happens all the time, only when it is important. It's like they can sense it.
3. Scratching furniture until it is no longer furniture.
This is probably the most mentally draining activity cats do on this list. Its one of those hours where my cat has crazy eyes. He is running back and fourth hitting walls as he goes, and he stops and notices my untouched couch edge. He starts scratching the furniture, I pull him away and constantly are saying no, but it only makes him worse. Every time I pull him away, he runs back. Five mental breakdowns later, about how I can't even control my cat in my life, he finally stops only to move onto the edge of the TV stand.
4. Attacking the water bowl so there's puddles everywhere.
So lets say you are running late to work. You are rushing to get dressed, and find your shoes. Your socks are on as you are running around looking for the next item you need, when you slip on something wet. Looking down you see a giant puddle circling your cats water bowl. Okay we have a clear picture? Now imaging that happening to you every single day of your life. Irritating right? I think so too.
5. The spontaneous shrieks of horror.
I am finally off of work after a super long day. I lay down and just start to unwind when I hear some strange moan like meows coming from my bathroom. Scared that my cat is hurt, I run to my bathroom only to see him staring at himself in the mirror making these weird ass meows. Turns out he thinks his reflection is another cat, and does not stop these loud shrieks for three hours. I can hear him pouncing on the mirror, meowing every five seconds.
6. Making us think they love us, only to find they don't.
My cat is laying on my bed, looking adorable and fluffy, so I have to touch him. He is cuddling with me, rubbing his head along my hand when all of a sudden he snaps. The cute cuddling transitioned into him trying to bite the skin off of my hand within four seconds. The frequency of this event is actually sad. Cats make us believe they love us, then one second they are trying to murder us slowly by biting off our hands.
