I just went into my local grocery store and there's a voter registration volunteer stationed to sign people up.
A lady walked by and before the volunteer said anything she very angrily announced she wouldn't be voting this election season. When asked why, she just shook her head, gave no reason, and walked into the store.
Some of you may not know this, but I am a political science major and typically a left of center voter.
I do not agree with Hil on everything and I know she's not perfect, by any means. But anyone that's been in the national light for 30+ years is going to have a record. And a woman candidate of a former president is going to be tied to her husband's personal and political record and decision making. It comes with the package. I get it and I accept it. I will be voting for Hil.
The stakes are too high to not vote for her. To not stand up against the hate, bigotry, and anger that is Donald Trump. He has taken voters recovering from an economically hard time and tapped into and exploited those frustrations. He's turned those struggles we all feel into racism. Attacks against the poor. Hate against Muslim Americans. And the one that hits home most for me is this week's talk on sexual assault and rape. How can we accept that the man that could sit in the oval office has joked in public about grabbing women's pus****?
Yesterday I scrolled through my FB and actually read a comment from someone that the rhetoric from last week didn't bother him. He even said the women probably asked for it. How many chances is Trump going to get? He has his voters so wrapped around his manipulative and hate filled finger that anything he says or does is excusable.
Thank you to Gov. Kasich and Rep. Paul Ryan for taking a stand. And thank you to all other Republicans that will follow.
This, my friends, is why I may have studied policy in undergrad but I'm not involved with anything politics. This is why I support at-risk kiddos in the after-school time instead. This is why I coach women to be healthier. I refuse to fall into anything that would make me see what's happening now more than what's on my Facebook page. And you better believe I am informed and will be voting next month.
To the woman that walked into the grocery store today--- all I can hope is that you see and hear something that makes you understand how important it is that you get out and vote. Take a stand. Our country deserves better. We deserve better.
Literally, our country's future is on the line this November.
