Melania Trump Plagiarizes Michelle Obama's Speech At Convention

On Monday, both Melania Trump and the Donald Tump campaign denied allegations that Melania Trump’s speech was plagiarized. Melania gave a well-received speech at the Republican National Convention, where she addressed key issues such as the rights of women and children. We can all agree that the nearly 14-and-a-half-minute-speech wasn’t going to win Melania any personality points, but it did land her in the thick of a plagiarism controversy.

There were, understandably, some language slip-ups and weak points during the speech on Monday, but the greatest tragedy was the words taken from Michelle Obama’s 2008 Convention speech. How ironic that the most personal points made during Melania’s speech – including her upbringing, thoughts on her husband, and raising her children – would be taken from a speech, given eight years ago by our current first lady. Although cringe worthy, the most popular side-by-side video shows the striking similarities between the two. Who would have thought that Michelle Obama and Melania Trump had so much in common?

In speech meant to vouch for Donald Trump’s never-give-up/self-made character, Melania ended up doing a better job of showcasing one of her husband’s most honest attributes – dishonesty. Trump has been known to spew less than accurate bits of information when in a bind, and from the looks of it, his wife doesn’t mind stealing a few words when in one. Sure, she’s not running for president, but to pretend that a first lady doesn’t play a huge role in a presidential term would be foolish. Does anyone want a first lady that can’t even form her own thoughts about her husband and raising her children? All the more ironic is Melania’s fondness for the words of Mrs. Obama, given the stance that Donald Trump has taken against president Obama. Trump has been quoted saying that he had “a lot of bad feelings about him” in reference to president Obama, and most of his supporters feel the same. It doesn’t take a survey or political poll to know that many Trump supporters are not fans of our current president. Donald has been quoted saying many unfavorable things about president Obama, including calling him “anti-cop” and even going as far as to imply that president Obama had was involved in the recent Orlando shooting.

In a situation like this, I wonder if Trump supporters felt moved by that section speech, which were truly the words of Mrs. Obama – point-by-point. Being a credible character witness was Melania task of the night, but instead she dug a hole in her own credibility. To be the wife of the man who speaks so strongly against the Obama’s, Melania sure seems to be a fan of them.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
