Going into college, everyone hears something along the lines of "you are going to meet your bridesmaids (or groomsmen)" or "you are going to meet your best friends", and everyone who tells you this, is right. With 40,000 people at college, you hope to God they're right.
You meet a lot of really great people, but there's just that one person. When you meet them, you just know that you guys are going to be best friends. Everyone has this one person. They just get you. They understand what you’re trying to say even when you’re not even completely sure what you’re trying to say. This is who you can text at 2 am with anything and you’ll get a response within 30 seconds. You look at them and know exactly what the other one is thinking.
This is who actually types the response to the boy that is texting you because you're too afraid to write it yourself.Don't know what to wear on a date function? They know.
Don't know who to ask on formal? They know.
Don't know if you should eat that third piece of garlic bread? They know. And they'll say you that you should definitely eat it.
Your person will tell you how it is too. If you have a piece of food between your teeth, they'll usually say something like, "hey ugly, you have something in your teeth." You know it's out of love and at least they told you now instead of finding it eight hours later. True friendship right there. True friendship is also knowing you always have at least one like on your latest Instagram.
They give you pep talks when you really don't want to go out but you need to stop being a grandma and live a little. They are the person you go to Chick-Fil-A with at 9 at night to get ice cream even if it's the end of November and freezing outside. This is person who tells you that you definitely need the shoes. The inside jokes are limitless. If you ask for her opinion on a certain guy, she responds with "you better pick out a flattering bridesmaid dress for me," as her sign of approval.
There is no topic off limits for discussion, no subject is too personal, no secrets kept from each other; anything you want to talk about is fair game. You are friends with their parents on Facebook. You crawl right into their bed whenever you are over, invitation or not. You know all of their drama and they know all of yours. You just can't imagine college without them.
So, to my person, because I know you're reading this, thanks for being you and accepting me for the way I am and not asking me to change anything.
