Being brave is not an easy task. Bravery has to come from within. Pulling strength from within is tough but worth it.
Being brave is hard. No one wakes up in the morning and is just brave. No one is born brave. Bravery is a conscious choice.
Now what specifically is bravery? The word can have many different meanings to many people. To me, bravery is doing the right thing, even when it is the last thing I want to do. Bravery is picking the right choice—not because it is the easy choice, but because it is the right choice. Bravery is loving others even when they turn their backs on us and hurt us. Being brave is trying to love others like God loves us.
Being brave is fighting for something you believe in. Being brave is not turning away from anything because you are afraid. Acting on fear is not bravery, but thriving on fear is.
"What is the face of coward? The back of his head as he runs from a battle." —Frank Underwood, "House of Cards"
The coward runs from fear, from conflict, but the brave embraces it like a welcomed gift. Bravery is standing firm during the storm.
Bravery means taking defeat with grace. Failure is only relevant if the person is defeated. Failure has no chance in defeating a brave person. A brave person treats failure as a chance to reflect, rethink and move on. Failure cannot touch the armor of a brave person.
Bravery is having the courage to pick yourself up when you fall. It is about being able to rely and trust yourself. It is about self endurance.
Bravery means believing in yourself, even when it's hard. Bravery means finding the good in yourself when no one else does, and proving them wrong. Bravery means never doubting your abilities.
Being brave is giving the glory to God. It is easy to take the credit for your achievements for yourself, but it is hard to give God all the glory. The brave man is humble while the cowardly man does not acknowledge where his talent comes from.
Bravery is knowing when to choose the battles worth fighting. Being brave is not acting impulsively on your emotions. Bravery is having self control in times of anger.
Bravery is no doubt a choice, and a very difficult one, at that. It has to be desired and sought after, and does not come to the faint of heart. Bravery takes ambition and courage, and comes only to those who work for it.
I am inspired by bravery. I am inspired by soldiers, cancer survivors and people who have lost loved ones. I am inspired by people who refuse to give up—no matter the circumstance. In life, we are all faced with many obstacles. The way I see it, we have two options when facing these obstacles: we can either roll over and let the obstacle conquer us; or conquer the obstacle.
I suggest to anyone reading this to choose the latter of the two. I ask you to be brave in everything you do—and remember, although bravery is the hard choice, it is the right choice.
