Having to choose who you are going to be living with for the year is a super stressful decision. You want to pick someone you know will make living away from home so much easier. My roommates and I were friends in high school, but we never thought about rooming together. We learned that we were actually planning on going to the same college.

Once we decided to room together, we were constantly told that we would never make it or we would end up hating each other. I can’t lie and say that I wasn’t nervous about us rooming together. The thought of losing a friend and everyone being right about us being horrible roommates scared me. I am proud to say we proved everyone wrong. Here are the reasons why we work as roommates.

1. We know each others life story.

From knowing every family member to the random freckle on their back, we pretty much know everything about each other. We know the people who have hurt each other in the past and will make sure to never put each other through those hard times again.

2. We are always there for each other.

Whether we have lost a loved one or are just having a tough day, we are always there to cheer each other up. I will always appreciate the spontaneous dance parties and sing alongs that could make any day ten times better. We hate when the other is upset. If someone was to mess with one of us, they would have to deal with us both.

3. We aren’t afraid to be ourselves.

There are three important words that sum up me and my roommate. We are weird. But we can be weird around each other and not get embarrassed. I could do something completely random that some people would think is stupid, but she will just embrace my weirdness and sometimes even join in.

4. We don’t keep anything bottled up.

Thankfully, we haven’t had a fight or argument yet. If we do have one in the future, I know we will be able to work it out because we don’t keep anything to ourselves. If there is something that is bothering us, we make sure to tell each other.

5. We are each other’s biggest motivators.

We make sure to help each other when needed. If there is a time where I am laying on my bed not doing anything, I know she will ask me numerous times if I have homework or something I could be studying. We push each other and make sure we are doing well in school. We also make sure we are beating the dreaded freshman 15.

6. We are each other’s mom when needed.

There is nothing worse than being sick away from home. However, it doesn’t matter what time it is or how busy we are. If one of us is sick, the other is there to help by making sure we are getting better. We make sure that the other is eating good food and not just the cheese bread ordered at midnight.

7. We can’t imagine living without them.

We can’t even make it through a long weekend without missing each other. The fact that we won’t be roommates next year makes me really sad. I hate thinking about us not living with each other anymore.

I am so lucky to have such an amazing roommate. She truly is my best friend, and I couldn’t imagine my life without her. She really made this first year in college easier and unforgettable.

I love you so much, roomie!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
