Let's face it: when you get accepted into a college or university of any sort, all that the college veterans tell you is, "I hope you know someone going there, or else they're going to assign you a random roommate and that's it."
To be honest, that's not the most welcoming statement when you just got accepted. My roommate and I have been best friends for 10 years and the idea of being stuck with two new roommates who we knew absolutely nothing about sounded like the worst thing to ever happen. What if they're messy or what if they don't like Hilary Duff? These are the important questions that we needed answers to.
Then we met them. What originally seemed the equivalent of having a crown put in with no anesthesia became something totally amazing and incredible. All that you hear nowadays are horror stories about random roommates and how they steal your food, your boyfriend, or, worse, your clothes, but not all experience are a complete train wreck.
These are the reasons why I'm thankful for my random roommates.
1. They know nothing about you from high school.

2. They buy you Chipotle when you have no more money in your bank account.

3. You have a group chat with your other roommates that contains images of dirty dishes, left out food, and tips about what TV show to watch on next Netflix. It's also a no-judgment zone where you can admit to watching "Honey Boo-Boo."

4. They hate who you hate. Even if they have never met them before and they go to an entirely different school, you best believe that they know the name and school of the person receiving the hate and why you hate them.

5. Random dance parties to help procrastinate are always acceptable.

6. As soon as you hear a sneeze, you become a mom, terrified that they caught the local plague.

7. Having a break when your roommate has a class is very troubling and you realize how boring life is when they actually have to do work.

8. You always have someone who's just as eager to Facebook stalk a potential friend, significant other, or a random girl who you saw on Instagram who's makeup is absolute perfection.

9. You never have to eat alone, but you might not have anything to eat.

10. You're very protective of each other and will defend one another in front of anyone even though you've only just met.

11. Celebrating your first birthdays and holidays together is pretty much the best thing ever and it results in hundreds of new memories: the good, the bad, and the hilarious.

12. The first exam that you get an A on is basically the equivalent of earning a Grammy and they're the first people you tell who are just as excited as you are.

13. Whenever there is an extended period of time when you can't be together, it's not an enjoyable week or, God forbid, weeks for everyone who it affects.

14. Working out is a term that is used very loosely when you all are together and that is totally OK.

15. Now that you have them, you could never imagine your life without them.
