Not too long ago, I noticed that some fast food restaurants were running deals on their classic food items. The big three (McDonald's, Burger King, Wendy’s), were all offering similar pairings of food for around four dollars. My roommate and I thought it would be fun to go to these three fast food restaurants over the course of the week and give these deals a try.
I’m going to start off with the powerhouse of all the restaurants in the fast food business: McDonald's. McDonald's is probably one of the most recognized brands in the world, and lately they have been offering a two-for-two deal on four different food items. The four items you can choose from are the mozzarella sticks, small fries, the McChicken, and the ever classic McDouble. We decided to order all four of the food items so that we weren’t leaving anything out.
The staff at the particular Mickey D's that we went to weren’t especially nice, but they weren’t flat-out rude either. As for timing, McDonald's certainly fulfilled the expectation of “fast” food with a speedy time of two minutes and three seconds from the time we ordered to the time we received our food. The fun thing about the McDonald's food items is that you can mess around with them and create your own little food creations. We started off creating the infamous McGangBang. The McGangBang is created when you separate the McDouble and put the McChicken in the middle of the two burger patties. It’s basically asking for heart disease. You can’t really do much with the fries, but they were still delicious anyway. For being from a fast food restaurant, the mozzarella sticks were surprisingly tasty. We ended up getting another order of the mozz sticks and another McChicken to try something called the McChicken Parm, taking the top off the McChicken, putting the mozzarella sticks on top of the chicken patty, covering it with the marinara sauce they gave us, and then putting the top back on. Although it didn’t nearly taste like an actual chicken parm sandwich, and the sauce tasted like pennies, it served its purpose. Plus it was only two bucks.
All in all, the McDonald's two-for-two deal was pretty good, and if you like McDonald's, I recommend you go out and try it.
Now on to Burger King. Personally I have always preferred Burger King burgers over McDonald’s burgers, although McDonald's still has the best fries by far. Burger King's current deal is five-for-four dollars. They offer a bacon cheeseburger, small fry, some chicken nuggets, a drink, and a cookie.
Out of all three restaurants, Burger King gives you the most for your money. The time it took for us to get our food at Burger King (three minutes and twelve seconds) was a little longer than the time at McDonald's, but it was a little more crowded so it’s understandable. The employees at Burger King were super nice and kept their patience even while dealing with the man in front of us who ate his whole meal and wanted his money back because he “didn’t like it.” The bacon cheeseburger was really good, but the fries and nuggets were lacking. The cookie was your average fast food desert, and for the drink, I just got water. Although the burger was tasty, I preferred Micky D’s deal over BK’s.
And finally we arrive at Wendy’s. I’ve always enjoyed Wendy’s because of their square burgers. For some reason, I just like the fact that they are a different shape than other restaurants.
Wendy’s four-for-four deal is the real OG. They were the first fast food franchise to start this kind of deal. Wendy’s deal comes with a junior bacon cheeseburger, some chicken nuggets, a small fry, and a drink. It took a whopping five minutes and 32 seconds for us to receiver our food, and the employees were rude as hell. Although I did enjoy the burger, I still enjoyed Burger King's bacon cheeseburger more. The fries were meh, and the drink we received was basically carbonated water with a little bit of syrup. Even though it was the original deal, Wendy’s didn’t really live up to my expectation. I thought, and my roommate agreed, that Wendy’s was lackluster.
If I had to rank the three of these restaurants based upon the deals that they offered, I would put McDonald's as one, Burger King as two, and Wendy’s as three. In the end, though, it’s all still fast food.
