If you’re a die-hard “How I Met Your Mother” fan like I am, you know the duo of Marshall and Lily. They are two of Ted’s best friends and they are the perfect couple. They have been together since their freshman year of college, go on to get married, have a baby and a life we can all hope to have one day. If I don’t marry a man like Marshall, I’ll throw a riot, and here is why:
1. They know how to joke.
Nothing is better or more attractive than a sense of humor. Marshall and Lily have the perfect balance of love and laughter. They play pranks, make fun of each other, and never let each other forget when one does something stupid.
2. They have dumb but ridiculously cute nicknames.
Marsh-mallow and Lily-pad. I’m gushing just reading them.
3. They finish each other’s sentences.
They anticipate each other’s moves, know exactly what each other is thinking. They really are two peas in a pod.
4. They support each other through tough times.
Law school, debt, moving apartments, having a baby, dealing with in-laws—Marshall and Lily have been through it all. They’ve hit their fair share of rough patches and made it through to the other side.
5. They drink a lot.
They know how to let lose and have fun -- even if it's 2 p.m. They basically live at the bar.
6. They know how to embrace their silly sides.
Marshall and Lily make stupid bets (slap bet anyone?), play tricks, and meddle in their friends lives to no end. They are in no way serious people.
7. They are best friends.
Every romantic comedy, ever, has taught us that we want to marry our best friend. Marshall and Lily prove that. Who are you more compatible with than the person you spend all your time with? Marshall and Lily spend all their time together, and still don’t get sick of each other. It’s nauseatingly cute.
8. They are adorable.
Have you seen them? Picture perfect.
These days, true love seems rare, especially in college. Marshall and Lily love each other more than anything in the world, and that makes me hopeful for the future. I can’t wait to find my Marshall.
