Marc Jacobs isn't only incredibly good looking, but he also owns his own fashion label, 'Marc Jacobs' as well as 'Marc by Marc Jacobs.' Before Jacobs became this successful, he too went through hard times. Before having his own label, Marc Jacobs (in 1997) was named creative director of Louis Vuitton house of luxury goods in Paris. Along with this amazing opportunity came pressure. Not only did Jacobs do cocaine, but also heroin and alcohol. After Jacobs went to a rehab center and got clean, he went back to building the empire he now has.
Not many know a lot about Jacobs, but one thing that has stood out for quite some time is that Marc Jacobs is known for having the weirdest tattoos anybody can have on their body. One of Marc Jacobs most famous tattoos is one of Elizabeth Taylor wearing 3D glasses, as well as SpongeBob Squarepants. When asked about his tattoos, I love how careless yet confident Jacobs sounds.
In an interview with NY Magazine Amy Larocca wondered,
"Will he regret the Spongebob Squarepants on his right arm if it wrinkles or droops? Or will he feel sorry about the line drawing on his stomach of a sofa by Jean-Michel Frank, or the sketch of a laughing Elizabeth Taylor wearing 3D glasses, or any of the words like oui, lui, shameless, or bros before hos?"
Marc Jacobs answered with just a couple of simple words:
" Who knows what I'll think about all of this 30 years from now? But even more than that: who cares?"
I love this answer because it doesn't just relate to his tattoos, but also with his personality. Marc Jacobs could care less about what others have to say not just about his tattoos, but in general.
In another interview with Jess Carrier-Morley from The Guardian the journalist asked Jacobs why he tattooed the words 'shameless' on his chest.
His answer was, "I have the word 'Shameless' tattooed on my chest. I want to be as honest as I possibly can, I sleep better at night."
Time and time again, we are all constantly reminded that we shouldn't let others hinder our thoughts. Although we hear this countless times, we are still not convinced. We should not let others define who we are and how we see ourselves, this is something Marc Jacobs is telling us. Yes, I am sure there are thousands of people who think that his tattoos are careless and irrelevant. But that still doesn't stop him from doing what he wants with his own body. Nor should it stop us for going after our goals and our dreams.
