There are many things going on within our daily lives: work, school, errands, house chores, family, and even when we find time for ourselves, we like to spend it by doing things that we enjoy or hanging out with friends.
Sometimes we get so busy that we forget to include time with God in our schedules, seeing Him more as an option rather than a priority.
Recently I've been struggling to spend quality time in prayer and devotion, thinking that there are other things I'd rather be doing than to connect with God. Even when I do find a short amount of time for prayer, it usually results in a lackluster effort.
Because of that, my desire for God has grown weaker, and my relationship with Him has become a bit stagnant.
The devil tries to convince us that spending time with God is a chore, something that's time-consuming and unnecessary, when in reality, the time we spend with God is uplifting and brings us life.
Being busy isn't a bad thing. In fact, God tells us not to be slothful and make the most out of each day. But when we get so busy and push God away from our priority list, we start to dwindle in our relationship with Him.
Finding time to spend with God isn't actually that difficult, but we often feel as though we don't have enough time in our day to spend it with Him. So how do we make strides toward bettering our relationship with Christ? Well, the most effective way in making time for the Lord would be to set a reasonable and achievable time in our schedule dedicated to bible reading and deep prayer.
For example, one might engage in their devotion time before they go off to bed with 20 minutes of reading/meditating on a specific bible passage, and then following that with another 20 minutes conversing with God through prayer.
When we set goals such as trying to pray more or trying to read the bible more, it often results in inconsistency and lack of direction, but if we set a time within our day that is fully dedicated to God, we're able to take small but sure steps toward strengthening our relationship with Christ.
Making time for God is actually less about the time spent but rather the quality in which we spend it in. Even just 30 minutes of dedicated bible reading and/or prayer can strengthen our relationship with God, as long as we give our full, undivided attention to Him.
Here is a bible verse to impart with:
"The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace." - Romans 8:6 NIV
