>At this point, we all know about Kylie Jenner’s insanely overpriced and overrated lip kits that millions of fans all over the world try to acquire every time she restocks them on her website. While I'm by no means a fan of her, or any of her family members, for that matter, I've learned to love and appreciate makeup. Testing new products and finding ones that I love really makes me feel pretty great, but not on a materialistic level (although it does leave quite a dent in my wallet). Overall, it’s worth it.
Many girls are often victim to criticism from guys, and even other girls, for wearing OR not wearing makeup. It’s safe to say that for girls, wearing makeup every day has become a societal norm. This is OK as long as girls are not negatively influenced or pressured by the media that they “have” to wear it. It’s easy to want to look good, but you have to feel good wearing it, too.
For me, wearing makeup is a creative outlet. Experimenting with new products, colors and palettes is fun. My personal favorites are lipsticks, but like I said before, I don’t need you, Kylie Jenner. As a side note, the lipsticks I have do have come from Jeffree Star and Colour Pop. These are both trustworthy AND affordable brands that I highly recommend to any girl. I also wear makeup to cover up my skin imperfections because hey, no one's perfect. If putting on makeup gives you the confidence to go out like it does for me, then I think it’s worth the investment.
On the other hand, “wearing makeup is a choice, not a promise.” Just because makeup is a readily available resource, it doesn’t mean that girls should be expected to wear it every day, or ANY day, for that matter. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve decided to not wear makeup one day and hear someone say, “You look really tired today, are you OK?” This is pretty frustrating for me, and I know I’m not the only girl that's heard this before. Natural beauty is very much a thing, too, and I have come to the conclusion that it’s harder for people to recognize it nowadays, because wearing winged eyeliner and foundation is just what's expected of us. This is so wrong to me.
If you’re a girl, or even a guy for that matter, and you want to wear makeup, you should absolutely do it. If you’re someone who can’t stand the thought of taking 10 minutes out of your day to put some mascara on, then don’t do it. You don’t have to live your life the way others expect you to. Do what makes you feel good, wear something that gives you confidence and don’t let social media tell you what’s pretty and what's not. You’re beautiful with or without makeup. That’s what I try and tell myself every day.
