Why #MakeDonaldDrumpfAgain Is The Best Thing To Happen To The 2016 Election So Far

On his show “Last Week Tonight,” John Oliver recently addressed the man he calls “America’s back mole”: Donald Trump. “It may have seemed harmless a year ago, but now that it’s gotten frighteningly bigger, it is no longer wise to ignore it.” In this segment, Oliver voices the concerns of myself and (hopefully) many others at this point in the 2016 race to the white house, mainly surrounding the question of why the hell is Donald Trump still being taken so seriously?

He begins by calling attention to the fact that Trump’s candidacy is no longer the joke that it once seemed to be. He’s actually done so well thus far in the primaries that it’s quite plausible for Trump to become the Republican presidential nominee. Oliver proceeds to show clips of interviews of Trump supporters discussing why they like him: he’s honest, he tells it like it is, he isn’t political, he knows how to run a business etc.

However, Oliver then takes us through the many business ventures of Trump’s that aren’t as successful as they might seem, along with countless lies he’s told about pretty much everything, including being invited on John Oliver’s show and declining to appear. PSA: Just because someone says highly offensive and rude things that shock audiences everywhere, doesn’t mean they’re “blatantly honest!” And when someone has absolutely no public service experience and is running for the United States presidency, the information they supply about themselves become all the more crucial. If said information turns out to be anything less than completely truthful, that is a yuuuuuuge deal. The jokes then continue with Oliver’s mocking of Trump’s tiny hands (a topic about which he is clearly very sensitive).

Oliver then rounds out his broadcast with a surprisingly powerful sentiment. He announces that he read that Donald Trump’s ancestral name was actually, at one point, Drumpf. He talks about how so many of the American people who support Trump are under a sort of “spell,” that the name “Trump” has such a brand of success associated with it that no one cares to notice the horrendous man that exists behind those five letters. He then encourages all of his viewers to spread the message to #MakeDonaldDrumpfAgain, as an attempt to separate the man from the name that blinds so many to his unforgivable rudeness and countless faults. While this is without a doubt a hilarious 22-minute segment, I think Oliver actually relays an important message. If we don’t see Donald Trump for who he truly is and are simply distracted by his wealth, we’re going to eventually elect a man completely and totally unfit for the job as the leader of our nation.

America is not just another business venture, or another building that Trump can simply slap his name on and forget about.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
