Summer; a time of the year filled with smiles, sunshine, and tan lines. Every year the question arises; how will this summer be the best one so far? Well, look no further, because I have the answer for you.

1. Stop worrying

Summer is a time for relaxation and recuperation. Worrying about the small things only adds stress to life, and vacations are not made for stress. Learn to take things as they come, and learn to roll with the punches. Let go and let God. Don't waste your time worrying about the things that you simply can't change.

2. Stop and smell the roses

Yes, there will be days when the stress seems to be overwhelming, but those days shouldn’t control you. Take a few moments every once in a while to take a break. Don’t let the hustle and bustle of life stop you from making new memories. Stop worrying about how fast you can get to the destination, and start enjoying the journey.

3. Take an adventure

Say yes to those spur-of-the-moment invites. Take the time to see new places and meet new people. Cross something off of your bucket list, and make that time count. Life is too short to spend summer worrying about the past and the future; live in the present.

4. Make a new friend

In every endeavor that you encounter, make a new friend. No matter what your plans are for the summer, step out of your comfort zone. Saying hello to the person in the beach chair next to you can become a memory that will last a lifetime. My mom always says, “Never meet a stranger.”

5. Enjoy the sunshine

The summer months are known for fragrant flowers, cloudless days and warm weather. Find a way to spend time outside and enjoy the beauty around you. No one ever tells stories about the time they spent inside watching Netflix. So get out there and soak up some Vitamin D.

6. Find a beach

There is no place on earth more serene than a warm beach in the summer time filled with smiling children and salty sea air. Feeling the sand between your toes and the ocean beneath your feet can wash away all worries. The beach has no prejudice, it has no luxury and it’s just naturally beautiful.

7. Take a break

Whether you’re a student, a mom or a full time grill cook, you should take a break and find time for yourself. Life is too precious to work your time away. Every once in a while, find your happy place, and have “me time.” We have to care for ourselves just as much as we should care for others.

8. Eat well and eat fresh

Spring and summer have an abundance of fresh fruits and veggies just waiting to be enjoyed. Take a trip to your local farmers' market for some local goodness. You're supporting your local economy and you're buying great quality products. Even local grocery stores are stocked with seasonal produce and local delicacies. Trying new foods and new recipes can be a way to bring family and friends together.

9. Hold your loved ones close

Believe it or not, your grandma really does miss you. Call a loved one just to say hello, because they appreciate the thought more than you imagine. Friends and family will always be the best support system through difficult times, so thank them. Now that the sun is out and the moods are bright, let someone know that you love them.

10. Be thankful

Now that the spring semester is over and school is a distant memory, time is abundant. Be thankful for the many opportunities that are given throughout life, and never forget the blessings that have made you who you are. There is God all around us, even in the hardships, so find the time to give thanks. In everything you do, whether it be large or small, be thankful and humble. Remember, the sun didn’t have to shine today, but it did.

11. Do what makes you happy

Individuality will never go out of style, and there is nothing wrong with being yourself. Summer is all about freedom and happiness, so do what makes you the most content. No one should judge you for being yourself, wearing a certain type of clothing or how much money you have. And if they do, then they are not worth your time and energy! Why waste time living in someone else's shoes, when the ones that you have are just fine?

Whatever you're planning during these summer months, these 11 things can help you maximize happiness, brighten your days and bring joy to your life. As I always say, "when life hands you lemons, find tequila and salt."

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
