Just as those who have graduated before us warned, college went by so fast. Here I am beginning my senior year at UC Davis. And with a few blinks it’ll soon all be over. So for that reason I wanted to come up with some goals and strategies to make the most of it.
Prioritize college specific opportunities.
I love video games, social media, sleeping in, and watching tv. And there will still be opportunities to do that. But going to fundraisers, panels, sporting events, club meetings, and so on are finite opportunities. They won't come as often or easily post college. These are things that deserved to be cherished and appreciated, a few more chances to make some golden college memories.
Fine tune habits.
Senior year of college is the final dress rehearsal for real life, and if you still have trouble managing a sleep schedule, making your bed or doing the dishes consistently, or simply getting organized, those habits will plague you. This is the moment to get these things right. It's not a task for tomorrow or next week, gotta get the ball rolling to create a positive snowball effect. Otherwise, you're in for the more “classic” and less fun snowball effect.
Strengthen Friendships.
If you know me you know how important friendship is to me. But honestly I struggle with it sometimes. Often times I don't communicate as often or as ahead of time as I like, plans fall through, and sometimes I feel like what I do is either received wrong or not appreciated. Sometimes I feel like I do those things or give off those impressions to my friends. It's always a work in progress but if I want my best friends today to be ones I travel to and visit in other parts of the state or world years from now, I owe it to them to put in the work these friendships deserve for them to be lifelong.
Brace for New Possibilities and Obstacles.
While going through my final year of college tests and trials, I must keep an eye on the future. I don't yet know what to expect but college has prepared us for the next step. We must be waiting and willing to take that next step when it comes around. Until then, we still have unfinished business. The diploma is there for the taking but as always not without a little more hard work.
