I am constantly working on myself and improving each and every day. This doesn't mean I don't want someone to help me do so.
I've realized that a relationship status does not define me. Being single or being in a relationship are two completely different aspects of life, but ultimately, in my opinion, have the same purpose: to become the best version of yourself. The single life is a great time to really focus on what it is you need as an individual and to really seek out what it means to be you. We've all been asked the questions such as "why are you here?" or "who are you?" and I believe that being single can greatly impact the answers to those questions.
Even though living the single life can be difficult, especially living in a culture surrounded by the idea that happiness is only found through another person, it can be one of the most important times in an individual's life. For me, and granted I'm only 19 (but still I desire the same things as everyone else to find love and grow old with someone), being single has progressively helped me discover who I am. Having the ability to truly focus on myself, and unravel thoughts, ideas, and emotions that I hold within myself will, in the long run, make me a greater partner. I've learned to love myself because I continue to grow in confidence about who I am, where I'm going and who it is I will become. So learn to love yourself too.
Relationships are complicated and messy but are also beautiful and enticing. We as humans crave human interaction and desire companionship. This is why when we are able to find that one individual we would do anything for, a sense of optimism and certainty is presented. Even though being single helps a person learn to love themselves, having a companion to officialize that love for who we are, makes it that much greater and easier. Two people that are completely in love with who they are individually and as partners can allow for so many amazing opportunities in the physical world and in the spiritual world when faith is part of the picture. A relationship is meant for people to grow in unison, love, and trust with each other. This can be a valuable lesson in our lives today and for those who come after us, who need an example of what true love looks like. Learn to love yourself before you take on the task to love someone else.
Learning to love yourself is not easy in any way, shape, or form. I still struggle to love myself to the fullest but I do so enough to where I have no regrets or doubts about who I am. The first step is to grow in self confidence and love, then move into learning how to love another person. Be the person who inspires another to love themselves just as much as you do and to love yourself above all.
