We all enjoy entertaining things to read, but sometimes we need something informative, with some of my own opinions, of course.
1. Presidential Primary Races
Primary season is heating up, and candidates are starting to hit the campaign trails, so start paying attention! There are currently 13 (!!!) primary candidates for the GOP seat, that’s an outrageous amount. So, I’ll try to simplify.
The front-runners look to be Jeb Bush, former governor of Florida and brother of George W. Bush, who is more moderate on immigration and education (may not be a popular position among those on the far right); Ben Carson, a former Johns Hopkins neurosurgeon and American author, is favored among conservative activists and a political newbie, also is the only black candidate in either party; Ted Cruz from Texas, the favorite among the Tea Party; and even Trump, oh yeah Donald freaking Trump is running for POTUS, he has, “a lot of money” and isn’t afraid to let you know. He also isn't afraid to let you know how he thinks the Obama administration has done.
Four Democrats have declared to run so far, including; Hillary Clinton, former Secretary of State and first lady to former President Bill Clinton, who somehow didn’t know how to run two emails on a smart phone, is the favorite for the Democrats; Lincoln Chafee (cool name, right?), governor of Rhode Island from 2011-2015, was formerly a part of the GOP while having a seat in the Senate, then ran for governor as an independent in 2010 before joining the Democratic Party in 2013; Martin O’Malley, former governor of Maryland, who wants to “save our country… by rebuilding the (American) dream.” Lastly, is Bernie Sanders, an independent Senator from Vermont, pretty moderate when it come to gun control laws.
2. The Re-Reemergence of The Confederate Flag
All throughout the South, politicians are doing their best to remove and essentially erase the history of the Civil War that still exist today. The Confederate flag came about during the Civil War to represent the South as the Confederacy, we all know that, we all know what the Confederacy fought for slavery, “state’s rights” and illegally seceded from the Union (treason). What is regularly overlooked is the reemergence of the flag in the 1960s, specifically in 1962, when South Carolina flew the Confederate flag over the statehouse to defy the civil rights movement sweeping through the nation. It flew on top of the statehouse until 2000 when it was moved to it’s current position at the Civil War monument in front of the statehouse. We can’t delete history; it’s a part of who we are and where we’ve all come from, good and bad. My issue with people defending the flag is that they call it their heritage, when that’s probably not the best defense. That heritage involves some of the most inhuman treatment in human history. I’m all for monuments of Confederate generals or the flag being in a museum, because that’s history. If you want to fly it off of you own front porch, go for it, but it should not used by the government. With this issue, I see and understand both opinions, as should everyone, from those who defend the flag and those who oppose. People should be proud of where they are from, I’m proud to be from the Appalachian Mountains (Appa-latch-an, not Appa-lay-shun) and the South. The Confederate flag isn’t the way I show my pride. People need to realize America has had a rough past, and need to accept things in the past are still vaguely incorporated within the flag. You do not need a flag to have pride. This country is changing rapidly and hate does not need to be apart of it.
3. Supreme Court Ruling on Same-Sex Marriage
Before May 17, 2004, there were zero states that allowed same-sex marriage, the first being Massachusetts. Before June 26, 2015 there were 36 states that allowed same-sex marriage, but on this summer day history happened. The Supreme Court of the United States of America (SCOTUS) ruled it legal in all 50 states, and Americans celebrated. Many who oppose the decision of the SCOTUS tend to claim it is as religiously immoral or not the way God intended. I have my faith, even though I don’t go to church every Sunday, and still believe they should have their right to marry, love is love right? Divorce is also a sin and the punishment is stoning the wife, yet I see no one getting stoned to death. The greatest thing we as humans can do is love each other, and loving someone isn’t tolerating them and condemning them.

4. Moe’s Mondays
Okay, this is the most important thing you should get out of this, as a reader: Moe’s Southwest Grill offers $5 burritos with a drink purchase every Monday. People always argue which is better, Qdoba or Chipotle? I, without hesitation, always say Moe’s. The quality is so much better, plus chips come with your meal. There isn’t much better on a Monday then a five buck Joey Bag of Donuts (burrito without guac). Also, can’t forget the signature greeting from the workers as they yell “WELCOME TO MOE’S” as you walk in the door, man what a rush.
